Glycans components

C5-1 antibody was produced in alfalfa, the glycan component consisted predominantly of a mature oligosaccharide comprising a core a(l,3)-fucose residue, a bisecting P(l,2)-xylose residue and two terminal GlcNAc residues (Fig. 15.4) [6],... [Pg.241]

The inner-core glycans in LPS are very complex and species specific. These surface glycan components are antigenic and an important virulence determinant, which induces an adaptive immune response [111]. Vaccines based on these structural motifs have been targeted as alternatives to antibiotic therapy. [Pg.374]

Fig. 6.1 Scheme representing the structure and hydrolysis of glycosyl-phosphatidylinositol (GPI) (adapted from Refs. [1] and [7]). Free GPI and GPI-anchored proteins are represented, showing their similarity in structure. The points for phospholipase C (PLC) and phospholipase D (PLD) hydrolysis are indicated. The glycan component of free GPI is... [Pg.103]

Studies of the chemical composition and biology of the lipopolysaccharide from Anacystis nidulans have been reported. The glycan component of this lipopolysaccharide is composed mainly of residues of o-mannose and small proportions of 3- and 4-0-methyl-D-mannose, D-galactose, D-glucose, L-fucose, 2-amino-2-deoxy-D-glucose, 2-amino-2-deoxy-D-mannose, and 3-deoxy-2-octulo-sonic acid. Methylation analysis and oxidation of the D-mannan chain with periodate revealed the presence of (1 3)- and (1 4)-linkages in the ratio 3 1. [Pg.275]

Widmalm in a short review based mostly on the results of his laboratory has presented a perspective on structures of carbohydrates. He has underlined the central position of the solution state NMR spectroscopy in these studies starting with analysis of the primary structure of glycans (components and sequence), followed by conformational and dynamics analysis to the study of interaction with proteins. He has also anticipated that among other NMR parameters DFT calculated vicinal proton-proton, proton-carbon and carbon-carbon scalar couplings will aid these investigations. [Pg.193]
