Glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency case reports

Fatal hemolysis from mafenide treatment of bums in a patient with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency. Case report. [Pg.22]

One case of hyperlactatemic metabolic acidosis together with hemolytic anemia due to glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency has been reported (843). [Pg.630]

Also at risk of hemolysis are patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, in whom ascorbic acid can denature hemoglobin and reduce erythrocjde glutathione concentrations one such case proved fatal (18). This was further demonstrated by reports of hemolytic effects (19) in two young subjects with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency hemolysis was induced by excessive intake of fizzy drinks fortified with ascorbic acid (20). [Pg.352]

Acute viral hepatitis, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency and prolonged acute renal failure a case report. [Pg.11]

A second case report of a 20-year-old male with IBD, protein-losing enteropathy hypogammaglobulinemia and glucose-6-phosphate-dehydrogenase deficiency, on multiple immunosuppressants, presented with peripheral retinal necrosis 1 month following vaccination with Varivax . Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) of vitreal aspirate was positive for DNA from the Oka strain of varicella zoster virus, used in both Varivax and Zostavax [77 ]. [Pg.474]

In children with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency, a hereditary disease also known as favism, hemolytic anemia and hyperbilirubinemia have been reported after topical application of henna (Devecioglu et al. 2001 Kandil et al. 1996 Kok et al. 2004 Raupp et al. 2001 Zinkham and Oski 1996). In some cases, the patients also developed acute renal failure, sometimes fatal (Devecioglu et al. 2001 Kok et al. 2004). No case reports for such adverse effects in adults were identified after topical application. Relative thickness of skin and higher body mass to skin surface area ratio may account for a lack of case reports in adults. [Pg.505]
