For applications where surgical gloves provide adequate protection, if these are of natural rubber latex tlien powder-free gloves witli low/undetectable protein and allergen levels are advisable. (Alternatively the use of nitrile gloves eliminates the risk of latex allergy.)...

Because of their widespread use in the American workplace, butyl rubber, nitrile latex, neoprene latex, poly(vinyl alcohol), surgical rubber latex, and Viton elastomer were chosen for the present studies. The composite/bonded substances of this study were not in all cases presently available as commercial material for protective garments, but rather were chosen to determine their potential for resistance to solvent permeation. Likewise, Teflon gloves were included in these studies simply because they are commercially available. 

Laboratory workers handling NDMA could potentially be exposed to the nitrosamine as a result of diffusion through rubber gloves. Walker et al. (1978) showed that rubber gloves worn in research laboratories do not provide complete protection from dermal exposure to NDMA, because 11.8% of the NDMA contained in a dichloromethane solution was found to diffuse through latex surgical gloves into saline solution, over a period of 20 minutes. Dichloromethane is a common solvent for NDMA. 

So far, the process is relatively safe. But for handling the powdered, oil-freed pulp, buy a dust mask and pair of rubber gloves from your hardware store or pharmacy. Surgical gloves and mask cost less than 1.00 at the pharmacy.
