Some corroboration for this view comes from the work of Curtin and Gerber (1952) on the acid-catalysed reactions of the isomeric diazobutenes. For the reactions with benzoic acid in ether solution the principal product isolated is in each case the unrearranged butenyl benzoate. This is consistent with the reasonable expectation that under these conditions a benzoate anion is specifically associated with the carbon atom from which the nitrogen is lost on formation of the carbonium ion. 

Nitrobenzene appears to take no part in the formation of ros-aniline, and simply acts as oxidant being converted to dyestuffs of the indnline class. When nitrobenzene is replaced by chlor-nitrobenzene, rosaniline is produced, and not, as might be expected, a chloro-derivative. Dyestuffs of the rosaniline series are formed by oxidation of numerous bases in presence of aniline and parato-luidine. Rosenstiehl and Gerber divide the homologues of aniline into three classes, according to their behaviour on oxidation with arsenic acid. 

Robert Benny Gerber obtained his B.Sc. in chemistry from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1965. He did his doctoral research with C.A. Coulson at Oxford University in 1968, and was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with Martin Karplus at Harvard University. Since 1976 he has been on the faculty of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he holds the Saerre K. and Louis P. Fiedler Chair in Chemistry. Since 1990 he is also Professor of Chemistry at the University of California at Irvine. Gerber s current research interests include vibrational spectroscopy calculations for large molecules new molecules of the noble gas elements and their formation dynamics photochemical reactions in low-temperature matrices and clusters and dynamics of atmospherically important processes. 

Taylor etal. 116,117) have shown that the pH-dependent affinity of the enzyme for mono-anions arises from a pH-dependent rate of complex formation and an essentially pH-independent rate of complex dissociation. The kinetic investigations of Taylor et al. 116, 117), Kernohan 108), Gerber el al. 118), Thorslund and Lindskog 129), and 0lander et al. 130) demonstrate that only the acidic form of the enzyme, EH+, can combine with monoanions to form the inhibitory complex ...

A common problem with both Gerber 274D and drill formats (usually Excellon I and II) is the lack of definition of both units and scale factor of nnmbers (ExceUon is a precision drill machines manufacturer). Each coordinate is given as a collection of digits, and the translator, or user, must define the units (in in. or mm) and the location of the decimal points in the format. Another problem stems from the use of arbitrary numbers ( Dcodes for aperture numbers on an aperture wheel) to describe the width of lines and size of pads. Accurate translation of these files depends on the correct definition of an apertnre wheel, which is described separately. Figure 18.8 shows a photo-plotter schematic that explains the sonrce of the terminology.
