All over the world instruments of the "Bourdon gauge type" are used, and many manufacturers make such devices. Some of the best instruments of the Bourdon-type are from [53] with standard ranges up to approx. 7000 bar with a tolerance of only 0.01 % of span, provided with up to 16 inch diameter dials. [Pg.235]

Gauges which are sensitive in this range are primarily used to determine ultimate vacuum on a system and to hunt leaks. This pressure range is measurable by a variety of gauge types ranging from the manually operated mercury-filled McLeod gauge to various electronic gauges. [Pg.243]

Piezo-resistive pressure transducers offer a number of advantages [82]. The transducer is quite robust because of the relatively thick diaphragm. There is no liquid fill inside the transducer as a result, there is no concern about leakage of mercury. The natural frequency of piezo-resistive transducers is about three orders of magnitude better than strain gauge type transducers. As a result, the dynamic response of piezo-resistive transducers is very good compared to that of strain gauge transducers. [Pg.91]

Besides the strain gauge type transducer, other pressure transducers may employ variable capacitance, variable inductance, or piezoelectric crystal sensors to detect pressure changes. The low level output pressure transducer can be used in systems controlling flammable and other hazardous gases if the system has been designed such that the electronic power levels being used to excite the transducer remain very low. They can even be used in Class I, Division II areas if the proper intrinsic safety barriers are used in conjunction. Like the pressure gauge, the transducer may have a... [Pg.500]
