The University of Idaho and USFWS, with funds from the Bonneville Power Administration, are also gathering data for registration of erythromycin. Erythromycin is intended for control of bacterial kidney disease in salmonid fingerlings that can also be transmitted by broodstock to the eggs (9). If research is completed on schedule and data indicate that the compound is safe and effective, registration is scheduled for 1994 (see Antibiotics, MACROLIDES). 

The aim of evaluation is to gather data for both measuring the effectiveness of an initiative and making future adjustments on the basis of fhe evaluafion results. The key issue here is that the evaluation should not be a static post-mortem report, but should be a d)mamic set of recommendations and actions to enhance the program further and build on the success of mentoring in the organization. 

In many cases, determining the correct decision does not require perfect precision. Analysis can reveal whether the uncertainty makes it unclear what the best decision is. Because the bounds on uncertainty tend to tighten as we collect more data, as soon as the best decision is obvious, one can stop gathering data. For approximations that contain no associated statement about their own reliability, scientists tend to always clamor for more data no matter how much they already have. For approximations, it takes an explicit uncertainty analysis to discern whether the data are essential to make the decision at hand. 

In Figure 8 we have gathered data for the extent of coke formation as a function of temperature for a series of experiments and model calculations with the CoMo/A O catalyst. Although the rate constants of coke formation increase with temperature, the net effect of VLE and accelerated kinetics again lead to a pronounced maximum. The arguments discussed above also hold here.

Unfortunately, this procedure sometimes requires an extrapolation of the experimental data that limits its accuracy. Schmickler and Guidelli48 have gathered data for a number of systems. We shall report some of their data in the next section.

A rotating platinum disk electrode was used for gathering data for the calculation of the kinetic constants. Tafel plots (5) were developed (Figure 2), from which the heterogeneous rate constants, k , and the electron-transfer coefficients, a, were determined. In all determinations of kinetic parameters, a blank voltammogram, run under identical conditions, was subtracted from the data to remove current due to background reactions or charging of the double layer.

As of this writing, two manufacturers have received approval from the Food and E>rug Administration (FDA) to market full-field digital mammography (FFDM) systems (one is an x-ray phos-phor/flat panel system, the other is a scanned CCD-based system), and at least two other manufacturers are in the process of gathering data for submission to the FDA for approval. 

One means of gathering data for monitor indicators is patient safety culture questionnaires. We have developed a patient safety culture questionnaire, TUKU, that measures employees perceptions of the organisational functions depicted in Table 9.4 as well as employees psychological states, such as sense of control and worry about patient safety (Reiman et al. 2013). In one hospital, the results of the questionnaire were compared with the ratio of patient safety incidents at the hospital s 40 units 16 months after the safety culture questionnaire was administered. Applied behavior analysis methods are useful to achieve continuous improvement in safety. Krause (1997, p. 3) explains, These methods include identifying and operationally defining critical safety-related behaviors, observing to gather data on the frequency of those behaviors, providing feedback, and using the gathered data for continuous improvement. ... 

In gathering data for this chapter, one of the most interesting discussions about the real-world use of a numerical risk-scoring system took place with a person whose principle interest was the safety of the products his company produces. The risk determination system in that company requires that an independent facilitator serve as a discussion leader and that a risk review committee consisting of at least five to seven knowledgable people be appointed. Consensus on risk scores and recommendations for any necessary risk reduction actions must be reached. 

The lack of correlation charts is also a problem in far-infrared spectroscopy. A number of workers are gathering data for such charts.
