Gasification combustion

Arcus gasification combuster is described and the principles upon which it works are explained. This combuster combines solid fuel gasification with the burning of the lean gases produced on a small capacity scale. The types of solid fuels which can be used are listed and these include segregated municipal waste and industrial waste such as rigid PU foam and plastics mixed with other materials. Uses of the gas produced are included. [Pg.102]

The Advanced Gasification Combustion (AGC) project was developed by the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) and General Electric and Environmental Research Corporation (GE-EER), etc. The AGC process is considered to have three fluidized bed reactors. In reactor 1, coal is partly gasified with steam in the presence of a C02 sorbent. The remaining char together with the C02 sorbent is sent to reactor 2. In reactor 2, char is... [Pg.123]

A second major advantage is that furan and dioxin compounds are not formed during gasification. Combustion of organic matter is a major source of these highly toxic and carcinogenic pollutants. The reasons why furans and dioxins are not formed in gasification are ... [Pg.15]

In ordar to determine the effect of coal rank (at established by reflectance measurement of vitrinite in coal) on the reactions of coal as related to carbonization, gasification, combustion, and other processes, a wide range of bituminous coals were studied. The results show that reflectance measurements can be used effectively (1) to determine accurately yields of coal carbonization products such as coke, tar, gas, light oil, and liquor from pilot and commercial coke oven (2) to obtain the heating value and specific gravity properties of gases from these processes (3) to determine the free swelling index and B.t.u. content of coals ... [Pg.570]

Parallel to the determination of the profile measurement data within the burnout chamber boundary conditions at the different inlets are determined. Velocity measurements arc carried out on several profiles covering the total depth of the channel between the gasification/ combustion zone and the burnout zone as well as in the outlet area of the slot and the three nozzles for obtaining the combustion air volume flows added to the reacting main flow. [Pg.666]

The programme was divided into three major thermal conversion technologies gasification, combustion and pyrolysis, and this division is reflected in the structure of these proceedings. Each main area of the conference was preceded by a state-of-the-art review to provide a focus for the ensuing presentations and an authoritative reference. One of the major features of this conference series is the high quality of the presentations and papers, which is achieved by subjecting all contributions to a full peer review process. [Pg.1710]

In a strict sense, coal pyrolysis means heating of coal in an inert atmosphere. When heated, coal undergoes thermal decomposition, which results in the evolution of gases and tars. In all coal conversion and utilization processes (including gasification, combustion, and liquefaction), some form of coal pyrolysis occurs. Because coal pyrolysis by itself is an important coal utilization process for making coke and oil, a vast amount of literature exists on this topic. By carefully varying the... [Pg.544]
