On May 1-2, 1974, a field from the Zhdanov Collective Farm in the Krivoozersk Region was treated with polychlorpinen. On May 15-25, 57 female collective farm workers worked in this field with no complaints. From May 30-June 6 the field was fertilized with ammonium nitrate, and on June 8 it rained. When, on June 11, the same 57 women worked in this field again, by 2pm all developed acute gas poisoning (the concentration of polychlorpinen in the air over the field three days later was only 0.04 mg/m3). [Pg.46]

Any rational approach to the study of antidotes for nerve-gas poisoning must take this firm attachment into account. It has been observed that, in experiments in vitro, the D.F.P.-poisoned heart recovers to an appreciable extent in the presence of hydroxylamine. With this experiment in mind I. B. Wilson1 has examined the action of hydroxylamine derivatives and has had considerable success with nictonic hydroxamic acid meth-iodide (IV). The reaction envisaged here is a nucleophilic attack... [Pg.205]

Some authorities attribute the increase in lung cancer in nonsmokers to radon gas poisoning. Several studies found no positive correlation between the rate of cancer and the number of homes that had been exposed to radon for large groups of individuals in several countries. A seeming incongruity is the fact that radon does have some usefulness as a radiation source for some cancer treatments. [Pg.274]
