Gas chromatography-mass spectrometer

A qualitative comparison of the results from the gas chromatography - mass spectrometer study of the different hydrocarbons from the wood materials, did not show significant differences between results from one method to the other. As far as can be judged it is mainly the amount of each component that differs between the small scale test methods and full scale fire tests. 

The lncos-50 is a relatively low-cost benchtop instrument as opposed to the research grade instruments discussed earlier. The gas chromatography-mass spectrometer transfer lines allow it to be used with either the Hewlett Packard 5890 or the Varian 3400 gas chromatographs. The Incos 50 provides data system control of the gas chromatography and accessories such as autosampler or liquid sample concentration. It can be used with capillary, wide-bore or packed columns. It performs electron ionization or chemical ionization with positive or negative detection. It also accepts desorption or other solids controls. 

The electron impact ionization mass spectrum of cortisone acetate was obtained using solid probe introduction, using a Shimadzu QP-Class-5000 gas chromatography mass spectrometer system. The most prominent ions observed, and their relative intensities, are shown in Table 6. 

Watabe et al. [99] identified trace amounts of phthalate esters, polyaromatic hydrocarbons, higher fatty acids and their esters in rain water by means of a gas chromatography mass spectrometer-computer system.

The mass spectrum (MS) of chitin was recorded using a VG Micro-mass 7070 F gas chromatography mass spectrometer imit. The electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra were recorded using a Varian EPR spectrometer. The MS recorded at a temperature of 300 °C is shown in Eig. 2.22. This temperature was used to obtain a more stable and rich fragmentation pattern. Table 2.13 presents the list of fragments that can be attributed to the ions detected in the recorded mass spectra (MS).

The method developed by Mari et al. (2009) consisted of solid-phase extraction by Bond Elut Certify LRC cartridges (Varian, Harbor City, CA), and derivatiza-tion of samples with BSTFA. A gas chromatography—mass spectrometer (GC—MS, Thermoquest Trace GC/Finnigan Polaris Q MS) was employed for the analysis of cocaine, benzoylecgonine, and morphine. Recoveries were higher than 87% for all the compounds and the limits of quantification were lower than 25 ng/L.
