FGF-7 mRNA expression in the developing mouse brain is restricted to a 24 h period around E14.5, when transcripts can be localized to three distinct sites within the ventricular layer of the forebrain, including the ganglionic eminence (Mason et al., 1994). FGF-7 does not seem to be expressed in the peripheral nervous system. It is not known whether FGF-7 has mitogenic functions or participates in the differentiation processes of neural progenitor cells.
