The fission product and encapsulation plant (FPCE) to be built by Isochem, Inc.y in Washington state will produce fully encapsulated fission products for the commercial market. Among these, all of which are extractable from Hanford s plutonium process residues, is cesium-137, a 600-kv. gamma emitter of interest to the process irradiation industry. Isochem will offer cesium in large production quantities and low cost to irradiators of foods, woods, chemicals, etc. Its 30-year half-life promises economies in source array replenishment to compensate for decay. Cesium thus becomes an economic contender for current and planned irradiation applications. [Pg.145]

The differences in actinide element concentrations in the second vessel outlet samples for experiments with and without the presence of a gamma field (experiment 3 vs. experiments 1 and 2) are clearly evident from the data of Table VI. These differences are probably related to differing leaching characteristics of the waste with and without gamma radiation. Such effects have been reported by others (14, 15). Presented here is evidence for the first detection of TeV emission from the galactic plan and two previously unknown sources of TeV gamma rays, one coincident with 3EG J0520+2556, and another coincident with the Cygnus Arm. ABSTRACT A system is subjected to difierent cracks. A crack can be only detected when its length exceeds a fixed minimum value. The length of the crack is modeled using a gamma process. When the length of the crack reaches a certain level or when the munber of cracks detected in the system attains a fixed value, the system fails and needs to be replaced immediately. A preventive maintenance is carried out when the age of the system exceeds a value T. A corrective maintenance is performed when the system fads. Under a corrective maintenance and imder a preventive maintenance, the system is replaced by a new one. Costs are associated with the corrective maintenance and with the preventive maintenance.
