A functionalized carbon nanotube (CNT), CNT 2,5-dihydroxybenzyl hydrazine derivative, was synthesized and used both as a pH-adjustable enriching reagent and as a matrix in MALDI-MS analysis of trace peptides.Functionalized CNT provided twofold advantages over pristine CNT. The efficiency of enrichment of trace peptides was greatly enhanced as a result of increased surface area to volume ratio for adsorption in basic conditions. It also provided a convenient method for quick isolation. Compared with CHCA without enrichment, the detection limit for analytes can be enhanced about 10- to 100-fold after enrichment by the functionalized CNT (Figure 7.8). [Pg.237]

Double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWNTs), first observed in 1996, constitute a unique family of carbon nanotubes (CNTs). -2 DWNTs occupy a position between the single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) and the multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs), as they consist of two concentric cylinders of rolled graphene. We review the research on preparation, morphology, especially physical properties and applications of polyurethane (PU)/carbon nanotube (CNT) nanocomposites. First, we provide a brief introduction about the preparation of PU/CNT nanocomposites. Then, the functionalization and the dispersion morphology of CNTs as well as the structures of the nanocomposites are also introduced. After that, we discuss in detail the effects of carbon nanotubes on the physical properties (including mechanical, thermal, electrical, rheological and other properties) of PU/CNT nanocomposites. The potential applications of these nanocomposites are also addressed.
