Tliis is one of the most actively developing and closely watched fields of heterocyclic tautomerism—only the study of purines and pyrimidines is of comparable contemporary interest. Tire number of references is so high that many relevant works have had to be neglected, whereas in other sections of this chapter relatively minor contributions have been commented on because they pertained to a field where few contributions are available. Tire selection criteria were (1) all pertinent authors are quoted at least once, (2) full papers are preferred to communications or letters, and (3) recent works are preferred to earlier ones because they usually quote the previous publications. [Pg.16]

Most efficacy trials with reboxetine have so far only been published in review articles ( 178). Most of these articles did not have peer review and do not contain the full details concerning methodology or results. This fact limits the ability to accurately determine its relative efficacy and tolerability. In short-term (4 to 8 weeks), placebo-controlled clinical trials, reboxetine produced a response (defined as at least a 50% reduction in severity scores) in 56% to 74% of patients. These results were statistically superior to placebo in most studies. Reboxetine was also found to be as effective as imipramine and desipramine in four double-blind, randomized, active-controlled (but not placebo-controlled) studies involving more than 800 outpatients or inpatients with major depression. Reboxetine produced equivalent antidepressant response rates compared with fluoxetine in two clinical trials, one of which was also placebo-controlled. However, reboxetine was reported to have improved social motivation and behavior more than fluoxetine as assessed by the newly developed Social Adaptation Self-Evaluation Scale. In all of the studies, reboxetine had a similar time (i.e., 2 to 3 weeks) to onset of the antidepressant efficacy as do other antidepressants. [Pg.124]

Several aspects of the apparatus used in modem preparative column liquid chromatography are described. In the past, only a few systematic studies and applications that have made full use of the preparative possibilities of modem column chromatography have been published and only a few instrument manufacturers and accessory suppliers are active in this area. For this reason, compared with the rate of development of analytical equipment, the development of commercial preparative equipment is less well advanced. Several questions remain to be answered regarding the construction and use of such preparative. columns, for example the predominance of either batch or continuous operationi and the choice of maximum column diameter. [Pg.110]

This study proposes a simple approach to modelling the dynamics of solids transport within a flighted rotary dryer. The approach taken was to model the system in a series-parallel formulation of well-mixed tanks. The concept of active and passive solids is important, since it will lend itself well to the addition of mass and energy balance relations. This model formulation predicts the RTD of the system. Industrial RTD data was obtained from a 100 tonne per hour dryer and compared with the model predictions. gPROMS parameter estimation has delivered overall transport coefficients for this system. The transport coefficients are not independent, nor completely physically meaningful. However, they produce a very simple model formulation, which forms the basis for more detailed rotary dryer models incorporating mass and energy balances. Future work will see the development of a full dryer model based on the proposed solids transport model. Refinements will be made to the model to incorporate the effects of solids moisture and interaction with the counter current air stream. [Pg.916]
