Framework linguistic

In the final section of this chapter, we shall attempt to give a brief rationalization of the regularities and peculiarities of the reactions of non-labile complexes which have been discussed in the previous sections. The theoretical framework in which the discussion will be conducted is that of molecular orbital theory (mot). The MOT is to be preferred to alternative approaches for it allows consideration of all of the semi-quantitative results of crystal field theory without sacrifice of interest in the bonding system in the complex. In this enterprise we note the apt remark d Kinetics is like medicine or linguistics, it is interesting, it js useful, but it is too early to expect to understand much of it . The electronic theory of reactivity remains in a fairly primitive state. However, theoretical considerations may not safely be ignored. They have proved a valuable stimulus to incisive experiment. [Pg.43]

How do independently presented relations between two objects become represented as a linear order A two-stage model has been suggested in which premises are initially linguistically encoded as separate relationships or propositions based on common terms and relationships, these initial units are placed into a linear spatial framework that not only... [Pg.39]

This foreman was talking about his own site operatives and his own management of safety, however, the way he talks about site safety rules gives them a very minor status - just an odd rule. Reference to violations as odd reduces their impact in both frequency and severity, and positions them within a reality where safety violations (which in practice could be very serious in terms of consequences) are frequently minimised through relatively casual talk and linguistic associations. Furthermore, this foreman s enforcement process does not fit within any wider management practice or process framework and no punishment is included within this level of interaction. This subcontractor s foreman is happy to simply enforce safety without further recourse or punitive action to his own site... [Pg.139]

In my opinion, the answer lies in the curse of dimensionality introduced in Section 5.2.1. Often experimental linguistics (and particularly phonetics) is conducted in the framework of a controlled experiment, where some data is collected with the... [Pg.534]

However, the invention and application of such rules presupposed classes of substances that were already distributed into the five principal types of compounds (column II-VI). This distribution, along with the establishment of these five classes of compounds, was neither a matter of linguistic distinctions or derivations nor of formal classificatory rules, but of classificatory considerations that rested on specifically chemical assumptions and convictions held by the authors of the Methode. By turning to these convictions, we close the description and analysis of the table s formal structure and open the investigation of its conceptual framework. [Pg.107]

The fuzzy linguistic approach is an approximate technique which represents qualitative aspects as linguistic values by means of linguistic variables, that is, variables whose values are not numbers but words or sentences as in the case of a natural languages [24]. Its application is beneficial because it introduces a more flexible framework, which allows us a representation of tire information in a more direct and adequate way when we are unable to express it with numerical precision. In such a way, the burden of quantif3ung a qualitative concept is removed. [Pg.454]

There are many other disciplines such as linguistics, neurophysiology, philosophy, economics, history, political science and psychology that have developed rich theories that could explain many aspects of practice. The chapters of this book all serve as examples from research communities that can contribute to an engineering practice theoretical framework. [Pg.53]
