Forge welding

The methods for forging, welding, compaction and conditioning require preparation of the metal and die surfaces prior to the operation. Each of these operations requires higher prrssure forces than those needed for expl forming of sheet material.

NHDD, which is proposed as a mid-term project, adopted a cooled vessel concept. The vessel material will be SA508/533 steel in which there are many experiences on forging, welding, etc. Analyses on the additional heat loss during normal operation and the peak temperature during accident confirm that the cooled vessel concept is applicable (Kim, M-H., 2008) until full manufacturing capability is developed for the high chromium steel vessel. 

The reactor vessel is a prefabricated forged-welded vessel with elliptical bottom of 4230 mm hdght and 1 860 mm diameter. There are 2 nozzles (ND 80) for steam removal and 2 (ND 40) for feed water supply in the upper part of the vessel. 

A600W, 110A800W, and IIOAIOOOW. Class TC/DOT 1 lOA tanks have fusion-welded heads formed concave to pressure. Class TC/DOT 106A tanks have forge-welded heads formed convex to pressure.
