Foaming services

Orifice distributors are favored in foaming services, because liquid drip points are separated from the vapor risers (111, 349). [Pg.57]

Inclined tube evaporators sometimes perform well in foaming services because of the sharp change in flow direction at the vapor head. It sometimes offers advantages when treating heat sensitive materials. Inclined tube evaporators require low headroom and permit ready accessibility to the tubes. [Pg.79]

For 24-inch tray spacing, a maximum downcomer loading is 175 GPM per square foot of the downcomer top area. That s for clean services. For foaming services, I use 90 GPM. It does not hurt anything to make the downcomer too big. That is, there is no minimum downcomer loading. [Pg.57]

If you think that your tray will be in a foamy service, it s best to double the usual downcomer area from 175 GPM per ft to 90 GPM per ft2. Towers working as demethanizers or de-ethanizers fall into this category. If I have a sour water stripper with hydrocarbon liquids in the stripper feed or water in a hydrocarbon fractionator, I would anticipate foaming. The foaming service I know most about is H S absorption in amine. The greater the concentration of the amine, the greater the foaming. When I noted the 90 GPM per ft value above, 1 had in mind 25 to 30 percent DEA or 20 percent MEA. [Pg.58]

Compounds based on S—EB—S usually contain polypropylene, which improves solvent resistance and processibiUty and raises upper service temperatures. Compounds intended for use in the automotive industry are able to survive 1000 hours air exposure at temperatures of 125°C with only minor changes in properties (54). Very soft compounds have been developed to replace foam mbber for interior trim parts. In this and similar appHcations, these soft compounds are usually insert molded over polypropylene or metal and then coated with flexible polyurethane paint (55). Other automotive appHcations include products intended for sound deadening, flexible air ducts, and gear shifter boots, as weU as improving the properties of sheet mol ding compounds. [Pg.18]

These materials not only have a good resistance to burning and flame spread but are also able to withstand service temperatures of up to 150°C. At the same time polyisocyanurate foams have the very good hydrolytic stability and low thermal conductivity associated with rigid polyurethane foams. [Pg.805]

In-service issues. As mentioned previously, many early service failures of bonded structure were due to adherend surface treatments that were unstable in long-term exposure to water. A majority of these problems were resolved by the adoption of surface treatments such as chromic and phosphoric acid anodize for aluminum details. The remaining few were alleviated by the adoption of phosphoric acid anodized honeycomb core and foaming adhesives resistant to water passage. Other service durability issues such as the cracking of brittle potting compound used to seal honeycomb sandwich assemblies, and subsequent delamination, have been minor in scope. [Pg.1170]

This is the case with diameter determination. The relation of Equation 8-250 for the perforated tray or sieve tray with downcomers can be used for the plate without downcomers. Generally, the liquid level and foam-froth height will be higher on this tray, hence the ralue of h., clear liquid on the tray, may range from 1-in. to 6-in. depending on the service. [Pg.203]

The hydraulic oil must provide adequate lubrication in the diverse operating conditions associated with the components of the various systems. It must function over an extended temperature range and sometimes under boundary conditions. It will be expected to provide a long, trouble-free service life its chemical stability must therefore be high. Its wear-resisting properties must be capable of handling the high loads in hydraulic pumps. Additionally, the oil must protect metal surfaces from corrosion and it must both resist emulsification and rapidly release entrained air that, on circulation, would produce foam. [Pg.862]

Since the mixture tends to foam toward the end of the reaction, it is advisable to use an effective stirrer. A Hershberg stirrer (Org. Syn. 17, 3i) of tantalum wire gave good service in the hands of the checkers, and the metal was not appreciably attacked after repeated use. [Pg.15]

PLASTEC s staff of specialists offers professional services in a wide range of interest such as packaging, electronics, deterioration (eg — weathering, microbiological, compatibility), new materials, composites, foams, adhesives, specifications, test methods, tooling and processing, etc. At the direction of DoD these technical services are available to the entire US scientific and technical community... [Pg.787]

A furnace slag cement slurry can have a density of 1500 to 1600 kg/m. A combination of silica flour and furnace slag may be used to achieve service temperatures exceeding 200° C [670]. A gas may be suitable as a foaming agent [358]. [Pg.137]

Every science has a predilection for singularities, for phenomena which are not buried in the ceaseless stream of day-to-day routine, but stand distinctly out. Physicists addressed the motion of heavenly bodies long before they turned to falling leaves or bubbles of foam or the mechanics of human locomotion, and economists dealt with the impact of monetary devaluation upon national wealth centuries before they discovered the continuous trading of services and goods that pervades the humblest household. One reason is, of course, that a phenomenon which stands out is likely to be fairly isolated from its environment, and therefore easier to analyse. There are far fewer forces acting on a planet than on a knee-cap. [Pg.65]

The polyimide foams are flexible and have a very low density (7 kg/m ), associated with good fire behaviour, a broad service temperature range and good soundproofing and thermal insulation qualities. These materials are sensitive to diluted strong bases, concentrated salts and acids. Other foams have densities varying from 15-250 kg/m. ... [Pg.598]

Two types of PE foam backer rod, available from Applied Extrusion Technologies, are briefly described. Type HBR XL is for concrete pavements and type HBR is for highway use. The use of a backer rod in the joint, below the surface, limits the depth of sealant placed on top of it, helps prevent excessive sealant use and prolongs sealant service life. APPLIED EXTRUSION TECHNOLOGIES INC. [Pg.113]
