Fluphenazine enanthate

Across the sites, an average of 15% of inpatients received depot antipsychotic drugs (Sim etal, 2004b). This was most common in Singapore (75%) followed by Taiwan (20%), Japan and China (6%). The depot antipsychotic drugs used were fluphenazine decanoate, flupenthixol decanoate, zuclopenthixol decanoate, haloperidol decanoate, pipothiazine palmitate, and fluphenazine enanthate.

Fluphenazine enanthate and decanoate are similar in potency, efficacy, and adverse effects. They differ only in that the decanoate preparation is slightly more potent and slightly longer acting, requiring lower doses and less frequent administrations. Because the decanoate form manifests marginally fewer adverse effects, it is probably preferable. 

The API fluphenazine enanthate undergoes oxidation of a secondary aryl thioether to the resulting sulfoxide (Fig. 74) (112).

Half-life. Plasma half-life, fluphenazine hydrochloride about 33 hours fluphenazine decanoate about 5 to 12 dr ys and fluphenazine enanthate about 3 to 4 days, following intramuscular injection.
