Wild-caught adult male mice, housed in pairs of neighbouring enclosures separated by a mesh-capped tunnel, were each allowed to counter-mark floor tiles bearing scent marks from a non-neighbour male. Males were removed and floor tiles rearranged to create one territory marked exclusively by the owner and another containing some floor tiles (shown as hatched squares) marked by the owner and counter-marked by another male. In experiment 1 (a) the territories were otherwise identical. In experiment 2 (b and c), the physical protection surrounding the males nestbox was also varied. Protected nest sites were surrounded by the enclosure walls and house bricks and were partially covered with a lid. After opening the tunnel between territories, females were allowed to explore for 2h, then removed and given a choice between the body odors of the two territory owners, and finally interacted with each male within his territory.

Floor Quarry. (UK) or Quarry Tile (USA). A heavy ceramic flooring material. Floor quarries (as distinct from FLOOR TILES q.V.) are usually made by a plastic process. They are relatively thick and are hard fired to produce a body resistant to heavy abrasion and to attack... 

Rubber-based solvent cements are adhesives made hy combining one or more rubbers or elastomers in a solvent. These solutions are further modified with additives to improve the tack or stickiness and the degree of peel strength, flexibility, and the viscosity, or body. Rubber-based adhesive is used in a wide variety of applications, such as contact adhesive from plastic laminates used for counter tops, cabinets, desks, and tables. Adhesive is used on pressure-sensitive tapes as floor tile adhesive and carpeting adhesive. Self-sealing envelopes and shipping containers use rubber cements. Solvent-based rubber adhesives have been the mainstay of the shoe and leather industry. 

Rittagu-FHU, the Tyrathca ambassador, walked imperiously across the chamber floor, minute particles of bronze-coloured powder shaking out of her scales to dust the tiles below her. She reached one end of the table and eased her large body onto a broad cradle arrangement. Her mate hooted softly at her from a similar cradle in the front tier. 

In order to minimize the risk of microbiological contamination, surfaces must be clean and therefore smooth and accessible. Walls are often tiled or painted while floors are of asphalt, terrazo, or other suitable material. There must be a sufficient fall to the floor to permit efficient drainage. The drains themselves must be well constructed so that they are easy to maintain and trap all odours. Ceilings are so designed that condensation does not fall into the body of the room. Alternatively, air conditioning should ensure that no condensation forms. 

The amounts of feldspar used in common types of pottery bodies are sanitaryware, 25-35% hotel china, 15-35% chemical porcelain, 15-30% electrical porcelain, 30-50% whiteware, 15-30% floor and wall tile, 10-55%. 

Notice that rotation symmetry only exists for n = l, 2, 3, 4, and 6 five- and sevenfold rotations are not allowed because bodies with these symmetries cannot fill all space for the same reason that you cannot tile a floor with pentagons or with septagons. Icosahedral quasicrystals with fivefold symmetry can form, but cannot grow into crystalline solids in the strict sense of the word. Even so, such quasicrystals are extremely interesting both theoretically as well as from applications that utilize their unusual properties, as discussed later.
