The story focuses on the period 1915-1932 and the attempts of a number of individuals to generate industrial support for "pure" scientific research. The eventual failure of the effort provides an Instructive case study in the behavior of business enterprises in the financing of academic research.

ABSTRACT This paper will present the HuDeM (Human Dependability Model) project financed by the European Space Agency (ESA). The project has focused on developing a Human Dependability Model to be applicable for space activities and projects. The project is based on relevant perspectives from other industries like aviation, petroleum, nuclear and railways. Human Dependability is described as the contribution of the human in a space system to safety and reliability, a subject to reduce the incidence of human error and minimize its effects. Existing literature suggests that there is a trend towards an understanding and acknowledgement of the importance of humans in accidents and recoveries. In addition to propose a Human Dependability Model, the project validated the implementation of one proposed method. The initial validation is based on a case study. The validation method focuses primarily on the use of scenarios and checklists. This paper will outline and discuss some experiences and key challenges. 

Business and enterprise studies will focus on the study of the principles and tools in finance and business management in order to develop commercial awareness. Ability to identify opportunities and create value added products and services wiU be achieved through the study of real time case studies and modules on entrepreneurship and enterprise development. 

Europe and Central Asia In Europe, discussion has been robust in Italy and Portugal, innovations have been led by UNICEF and partners in Central Asia, and World Bank financing has supported Turkey to make significant progress in seismic safety (see entry School Seismic Safety Case Studies for case study on Turkey). 

The leftmost tab of the homepage is "Municipal Research," where you can access case studies of how actual municipal underwritings took place. One of particular interest is "Ports A Resilient Issuer," a financing for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey after September 11, 2001. 

One of the classical topics of pharmaceutical economics, the price elasticity of demand when there is co-payment or shared financing between the insurer and the user, is addressed by Cruz-Roche20 with some calculations on this elasticity. The same topic is developed by Puig-Junoy,21 applied to the Spanish case. This study includes a review of the international literature with empirical content, a detailed description of co-payment in Spain, its regulation since 1978, the main data and estimates of the effect of the switching of prescriptions from the employed to pensioners, and the price elasticity of demand (which is found to be small). 

Setting up clinical studies is a lengthy process, as there are many documents to prepare [e.g. protocols and case report forms (CRFs)], study facilities to be assessed (e.g. study sites, CROs, clinical laboratories, phase I units), regulatory review to be considered and negotiations and agreements with study sites (e.g. contracts, finances, confidentiality, indemnity, insurance) to be undertaken. In addition, as will be dealt with in subsequent sections, ethical aspects of the study must be considered (e.g. ethics committee and IRB review and informed consent requirements), and study medications/devices must be organized. 

Aj models of natural phenomena. In some scientific contexts it is natural to regard time as discrete. This is the case in digital electronics, in parts of economics and finance theory, in impulsively driven mechanical systems, and in the study of certain animal populations where successive generations do not overlap. 

Healthcare financing is changing and evolving with time, with a continuous decline in reimbursement, while the cost of healthcare itself is growing. It is absolutely critical to attempt to maximize collection of reimbursement for each study, and this can be achieved only through understanding of codes for each study, providing proper codes and other information in the claim form, and appropriate follow-up in the case of rejection or incorrect payment.
