Filtration fraction

The filtration fraction is the percent of the plasma flowing through the nephrons that is filtered into the tubules. It is calculated using the plasma clearance of inulin (GFR) and the plasma clearance of PAH (ERPF) ... [Pg.328]

Scarponi et al. [93] concluded that filtration of seawater through uncleaned membrane filters shows positive contamination by cadmium, lead, and copper. In the first filtrate fractions, the trace metal concentration maybe increased by a factor of two or three. During filtration, the soluble impurities are leached from the filter, which is progressively cleaned, and the metal concentration in the filtrate, after passage of 0.8 -11 of seawater, reaches a stable minimum value. Thus it is recommended that at least one litre of seawater at natural pH be passed through uncleaned filters before aliquots for analysis are taken... [Pg.52]

The finished product is centrifuged and purified via a number of processes, including filtration, fractional distillation, condensation, crystallization, and chromatographic separation techniques. The purified API is tested and then it is ready to be formulated into the finished dosage form, as discussed in Section 10.6. Exhibit 10.5 illustrates some of the typical reagents for API manufacture and Exhibit 10.6 presents selected chemical reactions as examples of the... [Pg.335]

Filtration/Fractional Distillation/Condensation Filters are used to remove solid particles from a solvent. The use of 0.2 jum filters can remove microbial contamination. Filtered solutions can be fractionally distilled and condensed to obtain the API. [Pg.337]

Administration of ANP produces prompt and marked increases in sodium excretion and urine flow. Glomerular filtration rate increases, with little or no change in renal blood flow, so that the filtration fraction increases. The ANP-induced natriuresis is due to both the increase in glomerular filtration rate and a decrease in proximal tubular sodium reabsorption. ANP also inhibits the secretion of renin, aldosterone, and vasopressin these changes may also increase sodium and water excretion. Finally, ANP causes vasodilation and decreases arterial blood pressure. Suppression of ANP production or blockade of its action impairs the natriuretic response to volume expansion, and increases blood pressure. [Pg.384]

Depending on the concentration, volatile anesthetics decrease the glomerular filtration rate and renal blood flow, and increase the filtration fraction. Since renal blood flow decreases during general anesthesia in spite of well-maintained or even increased perfusion pressures (due to increased renal vascular resistance), autoregulation of renal flow may be impaired by these drugs. [Pg.548]

Figure 1. Effect of Unpleasant Interview on Cardiac Stroke Volume, Blood Pressure, Renal Blood Flow, Filtration Fraction, and Urine Flow of Patient (166)... Figure 1. Effect of Unpleasant Interview on Cardiac Stroke Volume, Blood Pressure, Renal Blood Flow, Filtration Fraction, and Urine Flow of Patient (166)...
Figure 1 shows the effect of traumatic or unpleasant interview on blood pressure, cardiac stroke volume, renal blood flow, and the fraction of the renal blood flow that was filtered at the glomeruli (filtration fraction). In response to the interview both the systolic and diastolic blood pressure and the stroke volume of the heart increased. There was a decrease in the flow of blood through the kidney, and this decrease was due predominantly to an efferent arteriolar constriction since the filtration fraction was increased somewhat. [Pg.38]

The hydrolytic condensation of tert-butyltrichlorosilane ISu SiC l, in water was performed in a 25-fold up-scaling of the HTE synthesis. Bu SiCh is a solid at room temperature since the HTE workstation employed can only handle liquids, the tri-chlorosilane was dissolved in a minimum of acetonitrile. The same procedure was used for the up-scaled synthesis. After 18 h of reaction at 50 °C, the reaction mixture contained a white precipitate, which was isolated by filtration (fraction A). [Pg.230]

One hundred and twenty-three individual phytoplankton clones representing twelve algal classes were examined for total DMS(DMSP) production. DMS was measured in whole cultures, cell and filtrate fractions (as outlined in Figure 1). DMS measurements for whole cultures (cells and filtrate) are given in Table I. Values for DMS levels in all fractions, whole culture, filtered cells and filtrate are not reported here but comparisons of the whole culture sample with the filtered cells and accompanying filtrate revealed that, for the most part, amounts of DMS in the two fractions were equivalent to the amount in the whole culture. Differences can largely be attributed to filtering problems. Even... [Pg.169]

A mixture of 1 kg. of methanol, 65 g. (1.0 mole) of potassium cyanide, and 404 g. (2.0 moles) of trimethylene bromide is heated to reflux on a steam bath for 7-8 hours. The precipitated potassium bromide is filtered off, and the methanol is distilled from the filtrate. Fractional distillation of the residual oil gives 175 g. (0.87 inole) of unreacted trimethylene bromide, b.p. 70-72°/20 nun, and 70 g. (42% based on unrecovered trimethylene bromide) of y-bromobutyronitrile, b.p, 100-102°/20 mm. [Pg.51]

Structural change is accompanied by functional changes, which in many respects are the reverse of those seen in early life. On average, GFR declines with age by approximately lmL/min/1.73mVyr over the age of 40 and the rate of decline in GFR accelerates after age 65. Renal blood flow also decreases with age, while the filtration fraction (i.e., GFR/renal plasma flow) and renal vascular resistance ... [Pg.1685]

It was determined that approximately four times more bitumen-free organic matter is associated with silicate minerals than with carbonate minerals. The major structural constituent of the various filtrate fractions was paraffinic compounds. Dopa, dopamine, and tyrosine have been the most common substrates in the preparation of synthetic eumelanins. In a typical experiment the enzyme (15 ml of solution of 30 mg of enzyme in 100 ml Sorensen s buffer, pH 7) and L-dopa (150 mg) in pH 7 buffer (500 ml) are kept with access to air for 2 weeks (755) stirring, bubbling air through the mixture, and raising the temperature up to 38°C accelerate the process. Melanin is separated by filtration, fractional sedimentation, or, more efficiently, by centrifuging (500 to 100,000 g), especially after acidification (pH < 3.5) (see Section IV) (251). Samples are further purified by repeated resuspension and centrifugation or dialysis (252). [Pg.271]
