Fibrillated tape

Fibrillated tape, again particularly successful with polypropylene, in which oriented film is stretched so much that fibrillation occurs. [Pg.175]

Film tapes may also be made drawn up to 10 1 ratios and then fibrillated by pin rollers, embossed rollers or some other technique. Fibrillated tape has been a substantial replacement for sisal. [Pg.265]

A totally unexpected observation was made when the compression strength of (0.1% by volume) fluorinated fiber concrete increased from about 31 MPa (unfilled) to about 38.6 MPa (filled with fluorinated fibrillated tape). This observation is in contrast to published results31 that PP fibers do not enhance compressive strength. [Pg.256]

Similar to slit film fiber, fibrillated tape fiber is produced. However a draw ratio of up to 1 10 is used and a fibrillation step is added to the process. The slit film tapes are fibrillated by passing them over a rapidly rotating roll fitted with staggered rows of pins. As the pins are traveling faster than the tapes, they make a series of short discrete cuts in the longitudinal direction of the tapes. [Pg.267]

After the yarn is drawn, it is fibrillated. A large number of devices have been invented for fibrillating tapes in-line to give them a more fiber-like character. In various processes, the tapes are rolled, twisted, brushed, pulled, treated with air jets, subjected to ultrasonics, or contacted with rotating rolls that have cutting or punching devices on their periphery. The most prevalent method is that which uses rotating rolls. This method is simple, easy to... [Pg.203]

One of four basic yarn types, shown in Figure 2.2, is normally employed in the production of woven fabrics monofilaments, multifilaments, staple spun yams and fibrillated tape yams (a helpful summary of trade names is given by Purchas and Sutherland, 2002). [Pg.85]

Fibrillated tape yarns are produced from narrow width polypropylene films that are converted into relatively coarse filaments using special cutters and pins. These yarns find only limited use in filtration, mainly as coarse, open weave structures to provide support or drainage fabrics behind finer grade filter cloths. [Pg.86]
