Fibrillated tape yams

One of four basic yarn types, shown in Figure 2.2, is normally employed in the production of woven fabrics monofilaments, multifilaments, staple spun yams and fibrillated tape yams (a helpful summary of trade names is given by Purchas and Sutherland, 2002). 

PP film items 2.5 mm wide Film tapes, 3.5 mm thick Strappings, 0.3-0.8 mm thick Slit tapes, 0.05 mm thick Fibrillated film fibers and split film yams of 5-1200 dtex... 

Yams can also be made up from tapes of various kinds. In the case of filter media, these tapes would probably be fibrillated, or made of other perforated material.
