Felt body

Because closer tolerances were reqd the case walls were much smaller than those produced previously, the conventional female bag molding technique could not be applied to the fabrication of felt body cases. It became necessary to design new molds and to modify the fabrication technique... [Pg.205]

Candy is coated with shellac to seal in moisture and keep the product fresh. The coating provides a high gloss to the confection, which improves its appearance. Citms fmits and some apples are often coated with shellac. This improves the appearance, while allowing the fmit to breathe without spoilage. Shellac is used as a stiffener for felt hat bodies, primarily for recreational hats. It is also used to stiffen playing cards, providing "snap."... [Pg.142]

Exeept for the bolded seetions, the following information was taken direetly from a report entitled EPA/LABOR Superfund Elealth and Safety Taskforee OSHA Audits of Superfund Sites 1993 to 1996, dated August 25, 1997. The report is lengthy, so the authors have only ineluded parts of the report they felt to be pertinent to the subjeets within the main body of the book. [Pg.177]

The result was of course Volume 2 and the birth of a series. The next volume, 3, was produced at the time we again felt the need to update our narrative a semidecenial period was settled upon since it seemed to represent the best compromise between currency and a sufficient body of material to merit treatment in a monograph. The volume at hand continues the series it covers the chemistry of those compounds which have been granted a United States Adopted Name (USAN) in the five years between 1983 and 1987. The bulk of the references thus fall in the 1980s the reader will note occasional much older references. We suppose that those represent compounds which were synthesized many years ago and set on the shelf at that time they were then revived for clinical development for one reason or another and a USAN applied for. [Pg.261]

The cardiotonics affect the transmission of electrical impulses along the pathway of the conduction system of tiie heart. The conduction system of die heart is a group of specialized nerve fibers consisting of die SA node, die AV node, the bundle of His, and die branches of Purkinje (Fig. 39-2). Each heartbeat (or contraction of tiie ventricles) is tiie result of an electrical impulse tiiat normally starts in tiie SA node, is tiien received by die AV node, and travels down die bundle of His and through tiie Purkinje fibers (see Fig. 39-2). The heartbeat can be felt as a pulse at the wrist and otiier areas of die body where an artery is close to the surface or lies near a bone When the electrical impulse reaches the... [Pg.359]

These limitations, most urgently felt in solid state theory, have stimulated the search for alternative approaches to the many-body problem of an interacting electron system as found in solids, surfaces, interfaces, and molecular systems. Today, local density functional (LDF) theory (3-4) and its generalization to spin polarized systems (5-6) are known to provide accurate descriptions of the electronic and magnetic structures as well as other ground state properties such as bond distances and force constants in bulk solids and surfaces. [Pg.50]

This type of electrochemical reactor is composed of two bodies by mechanical manufacturing [66, 67]. It contains a two-compartment cell with an anodic and cathodic chamber separated by a membrane as diaphragm. The anodic chamber is equipped with a carbon felt anode made of carbon fibers a platinum wire is inserted in the cathodic chamber (Figure 4.30). [Pg.411]

Fremitus A sensation felt by a hand placed on a part of the body (as the chest) that vibrates during speech. [Pg.1566]

For a dreadful moment I thought he was going to walk away without another word, and maybe he thought he would too I felt his body wanting to, only he didn t, he turned back to me. [Pg.211]

Referred pain is felt in a part of the body different from the actual tissue causing the pain. Typically, the pain is initiated in a visceral organ or tissue and referred to an area of the body surface. Classic examples of referred pain include headache and angina. Interestingly, the brain does not contain nociceptors therefore, pain perceived as a headache originates in other tissues, such as the eyes sinuses muscles of the head and neck and meninges. Angina, or chest pain, is caused by coronary ischemia. It may be accompanied by pain referred to the neck, left shoulder, and left arm. [Pg.85]

After 1960, many new isolations of these bases were reported, much chemistry and biology has been added to the original body, and about 80 new alkaloids from the vegetable and animal kingdoms have joined the list. These are the reasons why it was felt that the time had come to update the preceding reviews. [Pg.281]

The next day I still didn t feel well but I went back to work. My joints and body ached all over and my face and skin were blotchy. No one was allowed to go into the guest house. When I went into the laundry room I felt worse, but I didn t understand I was reacting to the laundry products. I also felt worse when I folded the laundry. I thought maybe I was coming down with a cold because it was winter and many people were sick. That night I went home and spent the evening in bed. [Pg.63]
