Factory Preparation Plant Production

In scaling up from laboratory size to large-scale production, the same chemistry takes place but the equipment used becomes far more complex. The capital costs are much larger and the financial consequences of a failed batch will run into thousands of dollars. There are several major components in the production unit  [Pg.48]


The top level hierarchical plan becomes the input for the next level of planning, which is the master production schedule (MPS) or master schedule level. This schedule is always prepared in terms of end items (i.e., what is shipped from the factory or plant). If the factory produces bicycles, then the end item is a bicycle. But, if the factory produces front wheels for another factory that assembles them onto frames, then the end item is the front wheel. Planning for the MPS is constrained by the earlier planning which resulted in the production plan. Remember that the production plan was developed in terms of product families. The MPS is very specific about the end item. For example, the production plan for an apparel factory may have scheduled 200 dozen men s long sleeve shirts for the month of January. The production plan did not specify color or design, just the family of shirts that would be produced. The MPS might then divide up these 200 dozen into specific end items to be produced in specific time periods. This is illustrated in Figure 9.3 for the month of January. Note that the shirts that are scheduled to be produced in all of the weeks of January total the 200 dozen scheduled to be produced in January. [Pg.126]

Unlike common industrial parks where factories are selected simply on the basis of their willingness to share the real estate, environmentally balanced industrial complexes (EBIC) are a selective collection of compatible industrial plants located together in a complex so as to minimize environmental impacts and industrial production costs [24,33]. These objectives are accomplished by utilizing the waste materials of one plant as the raw materials for another with a minimum of transportation, storage, and raw materials preparation costs. It is obvious that when an industry neither needs to treat its wastes, nor is required to import, store, and pretreat its raw materials, its overall production costs must be reduced significantly. Additionally, any material reuse costs in an EBIC will be difficult to identify and more easily absorbed into reasonable production costs. [Pg.441]

Modern on-site plants that perform complex preparation of gas and condensate come close to specialized factories in terms of complexity, multifimctionality, and quality of treatment of natural hydrocarbons. In Russia, the basic creator of the equipment for DCPGs is the central engineering office of the oil-production machinery company (CEOM). [Pg.11]

Three of the concepts, VBER-150 (7), KLT-20 (8), and ABV (9), are being designed as barge-mounted, complete power plants which can be towed from the factory to a water-accessible site, moored in a pre-prepared lagoon, and connected to a localized grid. Table 4 summarizes their characteristics. At 10 to 150 MW(e), these plants could support electrical needs for off-grid towns of up to several hundred thousand populations. They are also properly sized for support of industrial operations at remote, water-accessible locations. Moreover, all of these plants offer potable water production or district heating. [Pg.65]
