Extrusion sheet molding

PVC, PVA, PVAC, Copolymers) organosols forms available including hard and flexible types. Properties are highly dependent on plasticizer used. May be injection, extrusion, compression molded, vacuum formed. Low cost. antistatic sheet and hose, RF gaskets, heat-shrinkable tubing. [Pg.390]

Extrusion. Sheet, film, and profiled articles are made by extrusion (20). The resin is melted and forced through a die plate or head. Variations include multilayer and blown film applications. In multilayer coextrusions, different combinations of plastics are separately but concurrently extruded to form layered sheet or film. In the packaging industry, specialty resins such as high barrier ethylene—vinyl alcohol copolymers are combined with heat- and impact-resistant thermoplastics for food packages. The properties of each resin layer are additive, as opposed to the "averaging of property" in blends. Multilayers are also used for blow-molded containers, films, and sheet products (see also Film AND sheeting materials). [Pg.263]

The final product may take any one of a vast multitude of final forms. These include, but are not limited to, construction materials, toys, automotive parts, kitchen aids, industrial parts, sports and recreational equipment, containers of all sizes and description, and an unlimited variety of packaging products for foods, drugs, cosmetics, and other consumer products. The processes that are used to produce or mold or fabricate the final products are also varied and depend on the design and purpose of the product. Some of these processes include extrusion, compression molding, roto-molding, blow molding, sheeting, and films. [Pg.302]

Undesirable appearance blemishes due to poor dispersion show up immediately in sheet or film extrusion and in extrusion blow molding. Agglomerates near the surface get caught up in the die, and as the plastic matrix flows around the large... [Pg.322]

Products A wide range of polypropylene products (homopolymer, random copolymer and impact copolymer) can be produced to serve many applications, including injection molding, blow molding, thermoforming, film, extrusion, sheet and fiber. Impact copolymer produced using this process exhibits a superior balance of stiffness and impact resistance over a broad temperature range. [Pg.162]

SAFETY PROFILE Questionable carcinogen with experimental tumorigenic data by implant route. When heated to decomposition it emits acrid smoke and irritating fumes. Used as the main constituent of acrylic sheet, molding, and extrusion powders. [Pg.1146]

All the ordinary extrusion and molding equipment and techniques can be used to process PVDF into different shapes ranging from pipes, fitting, parts, solid rods and sheets, to thin films. Longevity of equipment can be extended using special alloys on the surface that is in contact with molten PVDF, but usually it is not necessary. PVDF based polymers are available commercially in a wide range of melt flow index and with additives to enhance processing or end use properties. However, both homopolymers and copolymers may be shaped from the molten state without extrusion aids or thermal stabilizers. [Pg.2384]

The methyl ester of methacrylic add (CH2=C(CH3)—COOH) is used to produce vinyl polymers used as cast sheets, molding and extrusion powders and coatings, besides being used in various copolymers. Poly(methyl methacrylate) production currently stands at over 2.8 million tons per year on a worldwide scale. [Pg.176]

Acrylics. Acetone is converted via the intermediate acetone cyanohydrin to the monomer methyl methacrylate (MMA) [80-62-6]. The MMA is polymerized to poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) to make the familiar clear acrylic sheet. PMMA is also used in molding and extrusion powders. Hydrolysis of acetone cyanohydrin gives methacrylic acid (MAA), a monomer which goes direcdy into acrylic latexes, carboxylated styrene—butadiene polymers, or ethylene—MAA ionomers. As part of the methacrylic structure, acetone is found in the following major end use products acrylic sheet molding resins, impact modifiers and processing aids, acrylic film, ABS and polyester resin modifiers, surface coatings, acrylic lacquers, emulsion polymers, petroleum chemicals, and various copolymers (see Methacrylic acid and derivatives Methacrylic polymers). [Pg.99]
