Extraction design reliability

While the air distribution must match the heat distribution, the position of extracts is not important. Direct return to air-handling units mounted around the room in numbers necessary for reliability is common practice. In the event of loss of one or more cooling modules a well-designed ventilated ceiling adds to reliability by distributing the reduced amount of air in the same proportions throughout the room. [Pg.445]

The airflow equations presented above are based on the assumption that the soil is a spatially homogeneous porous medium with constant intrinsic permeability. However, in most sites, the vadose zone is heterogeneous. For this reason, design calculations are rarely based on previous hydraulic conductivity measurements. One of the objectives of preliminary field testing is to collect data for the reliable estimation of permeability in the contaminated zone. The field tests include measurements of air flow rates at the extraction well, which are combined with the vacuum monitoring data at several distances to obtain a more accurate estimation of air permeability at the particular site. [Pg.530]

Pressure-relieving systems are unique compared with other systems within a chemical plant hopefully they will never need to operate, but when they do, they must do so flawlessly. Other systems, such as extraction and distillation systems, usually evolve to their optimum performance and reliability. This evolution requires creativity, practical knowledge, hard work, time, and the cooperative efforts of the plant, design, and process engineers. This same effort and creativity is essential when developing relief systems however, in this case the relief system development must be optimally designed and demonstrated within a research environment before the plant start-up. [Pg.368]

However, many analyses will require extraction of the component of interest before analysis is carried out. It may be essential to remove it from the soil matrix and/or interfering components before reliable analyses can be made. Extraction may be designed to extract only a portion of the analyte of interest. For example, extraction of a particular oxidation state may be important because oxidation states can affect the mobility and biological availability of chemicals. It may also be necessary to concentrate the extract after isolation. [Pg.177]

Adenosine triphosphate is utilized in portions of the cell other than the mitochondria and chloroplasts therefore, the utilization as well as the production of ATP is of importance to total adenylate status. As a result, it became important to consider total ATP content of plants. When detached pinto bean leaves were exposed to 1,0 yl/1 ozone for 30 min total ATP content of the leaf decreased (12), Since ozone altered leaf ATP content it could also alter the leaf s adenylate status we wished to determine if a correlation existed between alteration in adenylates and the change previously reported in photosynthesis and respiration. Since ATP is readily broken down by adenosine triphosphatases, a reliable method of extraction and quantitative method of ATP analysis was designed for the study (8),... [Pg.108]

The objectives of this work were (1) to evaluate the reliability and performance of this CLLE design in a large-scale scheme for the preparation of samples for biological testing, (2) to compare CLLE recovery to batch LLE recovery for a set of organic probes, (3) to evaluate variability in CLLE performance as a function of sample size, and, above all, (4) to evaluate the effects of background humic materials on the extraction process for both CLLE and batch LLE. [Pg.558]

The other area is the countercurrent liquid-liquid extraction system, shown in Fig. 27, using mixer stages separated by stationary horizontal discs. These have the advantage of only one interface for settling to occur, plus the fact that solids can be handled in one or both phases. Also, all the principals of fluid mixing can be used to design an effective transfer system. The design procedure is also based on the KLa concept, discussed in Section IV, and allows the calculation of reliable full-scale performance, based on pilot plant work, often done in a laboratory column about 6 in. in diameter. [Pg.296]

Cells for Conductimetry. Reliable and precise measurements of electrolytic conductance require attention to the design of cells, electrodes, and measuring circuitry. Extraction of an ohmic resistance from AC bridge measurements is not a trivial task, particularly in solutions with high resistance (such as organic solvents) or low resistance (molten salts). Expositions of the principles are provided in monographs that emphasize aqueous solution,54,55 and in a review of conductimetry and high-frequency oscillometry that emphasizes analytical applications.56... [Pg.281]

The digital simulation of an extractive distillation column was performed in order to understand the dynamic behaviour of the system. Based on this results a considerably simplified dynamic model of sufficient accuracy could be developed. This model was employed in the design of a state observer and of an optimal control. After implementation in the large scale plant this new control system has proved to be highly efficient and reliable. [Pg.481]
