Externality Analysis

GenSim includes an extensive externality component that allows the user to consider the costs of externalities on LCOE estimates. Initially, GenSim assumes that the prices for all four externalities, COj, NO, SOj, and mercury (Hg) are set at zero. The capital costs for each generating option include those associated with the best available control technologies for both SO2 and NO. CO2 and mercury emission technology costs are not included in the default capital costs. Using this externality component, the user can explore the effect of externality costs and/or different pollution-control technologies on the estimates of LCOE.

In addition to the type of externality analysis illustrated here, GenSim allows users to conduct a wide range of more detailed externality analyses. The various options by technology and pollutant are summarized in Appendix A.2.

In larger facilities, the tanks will have a loop for continuous filtering of the electrolyte and the bath temperature, pH and current will be monitored. The concentration of metal ions will be determined by external analysis on a regular basis. The most modern plants will also have an effluent control plant to deal with liquids resulting from washing and spillages and sludges removed from the tanks. 

The cinema is also an industry, subject to economic and cultural considerations that affect production. A filmic analysis alone is therefore insufficient and must be supplemented by an external analysis that integrates the work into its production context. It is only with this condition in mind that the researcher can succeed in identifying the anchor points that connect the work of fiction to its place in social space-time. 

The external analysis takes a different point of view and focuses on the inspiration for the film—in terms of writing and filming—as well as sources generated by the film. The press pack provides valuable information about the project s genealogy, the documentation used in writing the script, shooting locations, the role of technicians, etc. However, as this is a communication tool used to promote the work the information it contains must be used with caution. 

The monitor process must be able to observe the input and output buffers and the system memory. It must also be able to export the observed data to some external equipment, labelled in Figure 1 as analysis equipment The testability of the system is very much determined by the performance of the monitor and its interface to the external analysis equipment The speed at which the monitor can execute determines the resolution of observations on the system under test There are two modes of operation for the monitor process, it may operate as a sampler or it may run as an event trapper.
