Kolisko (1926 cited by Righetti, 1994) observed enhanced growth of germinated seeds with homeopathic dilutions of silver nitrate (Argentum nitricum). The experiment was followed up by Pelikan and Unger (1965 cited by Righetti, 1994)

Control of plant diseases by homeopathic potencies would not only eliminate pesticidal residues in treated plants but also do away with environmental pollution in the agroecosystem. For this, new materia medica in relation to plants should be developed by drug proving on plants and by merging plant pathology with toxicology.

In regard to the experimental evidence available, a substantial number of reports on the chemical constituents of the plant are available, but much less work has been done with the pharmacological properties. Kasture et al., however, made the important observation that a triterpene isolated from R. cordifolia induces anxiety in rodents, an effect accompanied with an increase in serotonin contents in the brain (30). An interesting development from that observation would be to explore further the molecular-pharmacological pathway and the effect of this agent on the serotoninergic system because terpenes, compared with indole alkaloids, are seldom reported for serotoninergic activities. 

Clearly then, bluish inks can exist without coloring additives, and there is no experimental evidence that such additives are ever responsible. However, it is difficult to rule them out altogether the historical literature refers to the use of bark from the pepper plant (9) and from Fraxinus pubinervus (2) to obtain a blue-tinged ink. 

The question is how a homeopathic potency or, in other words, a stereospecific water structure, is recognised in the body of the patient or the test organism. It is evident from the clinical and experimental results described in the foregoing Chapter II that homeopathic medicines are effective in man, mammals, amphibians, fishes, plants and bacteria. 

One of the first acidic xylans to receive a detailed investigation was that from New Zealand flax (Phormium tenax)87 [a monocotyledonous plant entirely unrelated to flax (Linum sp.)], for which polysaccharide the following partial structure (XXVII) was advanced. The experimental evidence is also consistent with the direct attachment of D-glucuronic acid residues...

The correlation between nicotine accumulation and its defensive role in M sylvestris has been convincingly demonstrated. Increased alkaloid production may also be demonstrated by true herbivory. Tobacco plants subjected to leaf damage showed a fourfold increase in the alkaloid content of their undamaged leaves. This resulted from increased alkaloid synthesis and, as a result, a tenfold increase in alkaloids in the xylem. Experimental evidence has indicated that alkaloid induction maybe triggered by a phloem-translocated signal (Hartmann, 1991 and references therein).
