Brain cells, like muscles, need exercise or stimulation in order to remain healthy and functioning. Growth is not limited to childhood, and with stimulation, experience-based learning can continue throughout life. The act of learning is now considered a powerful preventive of brain degeneration because it excites the production of connections between the brain cells.
