Destructive forces

Vibration is both a cause of problems and an effect of equipment problems. The potential destructive force of an out-of-balance load has led to setting lower shutdown limits on the magnitude of vibration than other rotating equipment. Flexible connections for process and utility lines become a must so these vibration problems are not transmitted to connected equipment. Flexible hoses with liners having concentric convolutions (bellows type) avoid the sharp points inherent with spiral metallic liners. By avoiding the sharp point the liner is less likely to cut the exterior covering. [Pg.39]

With a better understanding of the nature and severity of the water hammer problem, we can avoid its destructive forces. This greater understanding should also help with the introduction of more preventive measures into system designs and installations, which will help provide maximum safety for personnel, lower maintenance cost and reduce system downtime. [Pg.313]

Another strategy rehes on the strong peristaltic waves in the colon that lead to a temporarily increased luminal pressure (pressure-controlled drug release). Pressure-sensitive drug formulations release the drug as soon as a certain pressure limit is attained, i.e. destruction force is exceeded. [Pg.161]

Plants live in a world comprised of numerous limiting and potentially destructive forces. A developing biosystem is subjected to the integrated influence of all positive and negative forces that interact simultaneously upon the system. In the complex natural environment, a practical evaluation of the impact of any one factor should not be made without due respect given to the relative influences of other controlling and limiting factors which can vary plant responses and perturb the system. [Pg.125]

Nonexpendable light sources, such as a Q-switched pulsed laser can be protected. from destructive forces encountered in the photography of explosive material by piping the light through fiber optics, to the experimental zone. Occasionally lens systems are used to relay the light from mirrors located near a protective barrier shielding the laser (Ref 16)... [Pg.110]

Igniter powders are energetic materials which can react with destructive force. Under confinement reaction is rapid and the hazard is increased from both the increased pressure and possible fragments which may result from bursting of the container. Igniter powders must burn and also have a very low brisance. These conditions limit such mixts to combinations of fuels and oxidants such as perchlorates, chlorates, nitrates, permanganates, oxides or peroxides mixed with sulfur, charcoal or aromatic compds such as naphthalene or oil... [Pg.245]

Agglomerate strength plays an even more fundamental role in that it determines whether or not nucleation and growth can occur at all in an agitated moist powder. To survive and grow, the cohesive forces present in a nucleus which are responsible for its formation must be able to withstand the destructive agitation forces of its environment. Once formed, the final size reached by the agglomerate represents a balance between these same cohesive and destructive forces. [Pg.54]
