Expansion options

In this section, we present two examples with different scenarios. The first example illustrates the performance of the model on a single site total refinery planning problem where we compare the results of the model to an industrial scale study from Favennec et al. (2001). This example serves to validate our model and to make any necessary adjustments. The second example extends the scale of the model application to cover three complex refineries in which we demonstrate the different aspects of the model. The refineries considered are of large industrial-scale refineries and actually mimic a general set-up of many areas around the world. The decisions in this example include the selection of crude blend combination, design of process integration network between the three refineries, and decisions on production units expansion options and operating levels. 

System IV is a pretreatment technology for water containing cyanide and heavy metals including chromium, nickel, zinc, lead, cadmium, and copper. The technology precipitates a range of heavy metals there is no need to install separate pieces of equipment for individual metals. A cyanide treatment system expansion option is available for waste streams that also contain cyanide. System IV is not offered commercially. 

Investing in new technologies such as MTO is another expansion option. The Middle East has over a third of the world s proven gas reserves, and MTO would open up new opportunities, assuming the technology delivers.

Deurganck dock (Antwerp). Like Rotterdam, the expansion options of the port of Antwerp are limited. With the right bank of the River Scheldt, where the bulk of the port s facilities are located, reaching capacity a new dock complex was built on the left bank. The Deurganck dock opened in 2005 and can add about 9 million TEUs to the existing capacity of about 10 million TEUs. 

The Rheometric Scientific RDA II dynamic analy2er is designed for characteri2ation of polymer melts and soHds in the form of rectangular bars. It makes computer-controUed measurements of dynamic shear viscosity, elastic modulus, loss modulus, tan 5, and linear thermal expansion coefficient over a temperature range of ambient to 600°C (—150°C optional) at frequencies 10 -500 rad/s. It is particularly useful for the characteri2ation of materials that experience considerable changes in properties because of thermal transitions or chemical reactions. 

The RMS-800 provides steady-shear rotational rates from 10 to 100 rad/s and oscillatory frequencies from 10 to 100 rad/s. An autotension device compensates for expansion or contraction. With the standard 25- and 50-mm parallel plates, the viscosity range is 50-10 mPa-s, and the shear modulus range is 8 x 10 to 10 N/m. These ranges can be expanded with nonstandard plates, cones, and a Couette system. The temperature range is 20-350°C (-150 0 optional). 

Engine Expansion Cycle. In this process, a refrigerant fluid is compressed, optionally precooled, and expanded to a lower pressure through an expander while producing work to reduce both the enthalpy and temperature of the fluid. The expanded refrigerant fluid is warmed to provide cryogenic refrigeration.

One element of database generation that is a key consideration is whether to expand the representative compounds to include alternative tautomers, protonated and deprotonated forms of the molecule, and also to enumerate stereochemistry fully if not specified in the input. Depending on the molecules in question and the options considered, these can lead to a 10-fold increase in the size of the database to be explored. However, such an expansion is necessary if methods are used that are sensitive to such chemical precision (e.g., docking). For 3D similarity searching, it is sometimes more efficient to consider various modifications to the query, leading to multiple searches against a smaller database. 

Country-specific features, such as different fuel supply options, expansion potentials for regenerative energy sources or political frame conditions have to be considered to cater sufficiently for their influence on the real decision options. 

Sorbie and Murrell have developed a function for triatomic systems based on a many body expansion of PE. It has been applied to repulsive potentials as well and has become an attractive option for fitting ah initio PES. It has sufficient flexibility and extendable to higher polyatomic systems and to two-valued surfaces. The potential for triatomic system is decomposed into one-, two- and three-body terms.
