Inserts expansion

Palladium-catalyzed three-component coupling of dimethylsilacyclobutane, carbon monoxide, and aromatic iodides also yields cyclic silyl enol ethers via a ring/expansion/-insertion process <1996CC1207>. Electron-rich and electron-deficient aromatic iodides are suitable substrates, giving rise to the corresponding cyclic silyl enol ethers in excellent yields (Scheme 50). [Pg.541]

Expansion inserts. Fig. 14.4(b), are pushed into a predrilled or pre-moulded hole and are locked in place during assembly as the screw expands the insert They are used in the softer plastics which are ductile enough to allow the outer knurls to bite into the plastic. They are available in brass from M3 to M8. [Pg.256]

Expansion inserts are placed in predrilled or premolded holes and expanded against the walls by insertion of a screw. Torsional resistance and pull-out retention are obtained by embedding the knurls into the material. The inserts can be obtained with or without heads, depending on design requirements. [Pg.314]

In many cases the variation is not very strong for reasonable displacements from equilibrium, and it is sufficient to use only the zero-order temi in die expansion. If diis is inserted hito equation (B 1.1.6) we get... [Pg.1128]

Fig. II, 56, 6 is a simple distillation head when this is fitted into a flask with a ground glass socket, the assembly is virtually a distillation flask. The bottom cone is usually 19, 24 or 29 the side cone is generafly B19 but may be 24 the thermometer socket is 14. For many purposes, a thermometer is fitted into a one-hole rubber stopper of correct taper and then inserted into the 14 socket the area of rubber which is exposed to the action of the organic vapour is relatively so small that the amount of contamination thus introduced is negligible. If, however, all rubber stoppers must be absent because of the highly corrosive character of the vapour, a thermometer with a 14 cone is employed. It is important to have the thermometer of the same glass as the distillation head, otherwise difficulties may arise owing to the different expansion coefficients of the two kinds of glass. The thiepin system 31 is formed quantitatively by ring expansion of the diazoacetate derivative 30 via carbene formation catalyzed by 7r-allylpalladium chloride and its intramolecular insertion[31], The 4-diazomethyl-4//-pyrane 32 is expanded to the oxepine 33 in quantitative yield with the same catalyst[32]. [Pg.532]

Description These exchangers are typically a series of stacked helical-coiled tubes connected to manifolds, then inserted into a casing or shell. They have many advantages hke spiral-plate designs, such as avoiding differential expansion problems, acceleration effects of the helical flow increasing the heat transfer coefficient, and compactness of plot area. They are typically selected because of their economical design. [Pg.1086]

The Intercooled Regenerative Reheat Cycle The Carnot cycle is the optimum cycle between two temperatures, and all cycles try to approach this optimum. Maximum thermal efficiency is achieved by approaching the isothermal compression and expansion of the Carnot cycle or by intercoohng in compression and reheating in the expansion process. The intercooled regenerative reheat cycle approaches this optimum cycle in a practical fashion. This cycle achieves the maximum efficiency and work output of any of the cycles described to this point. With the insertion of an intercooler in the compressor, the pressure ratio for maximum efficiency moves to a much higher ratio, as indicated in Fig. 29-36. [Pg.2514]

In the reactions of 10.13a with alkali metal terr-butoxides cage expansion occurs to give the sixteen-atom cluster 10.15, in which two molecules of MO Bu (M = Na, K) are inserted into the dimeric structure. The cluster 10.13a also undergoes transmetallation reactions with coinage metals. For example, the reactions with silver(I) or copper(I) halides produces complexes in which three of the ions are replaced by Ag" or Cu" ions and a molecule of lithium halide is incorporated in the cluster. ... [Pg.196]

Inserting (2,3) into (4) gives the coefficients for a continuous and differentiable expansion. [Pg.235]

Tubes may be inserted into a tubesheet, and packing may be added between them and the tubesheet. A threaded ferrule is inserted to tighten the packing. This type of joint is used only for special expansion problems. [Pg.34]

Separation vessels can be inserted in a liquid line. Liquid will fall to the bottom and pass through an expansion device to an evaporator. High pressure gas will rise to the top of the vessel and can then be used for heating or for hot gas defrost of another heat exchanger. [Pg.119]

The well-known reaction leading to ring expansion of cyclic ketones has been applied to derivatives of oxo sugars in an attempt to develop a new route to novel deoxy sugars. By treatment with diazomethane both a five-membered (42) and a six-membered (26) sugar ring have been expanded by insertion of a methylene group. [Pg.154]

The concept of expansion of the porphyrin macrocycle by formally inserting additional carbon atoms between the pyrrole rings was first considered and synthetically realized by LeGoff/ He also suggested a nomenclature for these macrocyclic systems using the word platyrin which... [Pg.691]
