Expander construction materials

The information for this book was originally gathered for a six hour seminar on refinery construction materials for engineers unfamiliar with the subject. It has been expanded into a 20 hour course available through Bechtel Corporation. 

Stainless steel is used as a construction material for support plates for the membranes and for spacers. The forest products companies, on the other hand, see plastics as a way to expand sustainable forest resource utilization through the use of wood waste, fibers from underutilized species, and reclamation and recycling of wood, other agricultural species and waste, and paper materials from municipal solid waste streams (62), as well as a way to make new construction materials with attributes that wood does not have (56). 

The personnel platform must be equipped with a guardrail system which meets the requirements of subpart M of this part, and must be enclosed at least from the toeboard to midrail with either solid construction material or expanded metal having openings no greater than 12 inch (1.27 cm). Points to which personal fall arrest systems are attached must meet the anchorage requirements in subpart M of this part. 

During the Aichi EXPO 2005 in Japan, many innovative applications for PLA were presented. For instance, new materials produced from PLA were applied to the outer wall of the exhibition pavilion of the Japanese Government to reduce the negative environmental impacts of construction materials. The building was made of materials derived from biomass, representing a significant event that expanded the possibility of the application of PLA to durable goods.

Terminal-functionalized polymers such as macromonomers and telechelics are very important as prepolymer for construction of functional materials. Single-step functionalization of polymer terminal was achieved via lipase catalysis. Alcohols could initiate the ring-opening polymerizahon of lactones by lipase catalyst. The lipase CA-catalyzed polymerizahon of DDL in the presence of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate gave the methacryl-type polyester macromonomer, in which 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate acted as initiator to introduce the methacryloyl group quanhtatively at the polymer terminal ( inihator method ).This methodology was expanded to the synthesis of oo-alkenyl- and alkynyl-type macromonomers by using 5-hexen-l-ol and 5-hexyn-l-ol as initiator, respechvely. 

Materials of construction are becoming more critical with development of the newer processes and unit operations. Therefore, an expanded materials research program is essential to the successful development of a coal gasification industry.
