Exchange equipment, plastics used

OTHER COMMENTS used as a gasoline additive for automotive, aviation and farm equipment used in solvent extraction processes, as a general laboratory solvent, and as a medium solvent for polymerization reactions used in the synthesis of amyl chlorides for intermediates in manufacture of paint, lacquer solvents, hydraulic fluids, paint removers, and miscellaneous petrochemicals used in the synthesis of polychlorocyclopentanes as intermediates in manufacture of fire-resistant polyester resins and paints, dye intermediates, and plasticizers use as a heat-exchange medium, a component of lighter fluids and blow-torch fuel, and in the manufacture of polystyrene beads for styrofoam production. [Pg.820]

Low flammability is a necessity for most applications including those used in exchange equipment. Flame retardant grades are, therefore, normally employed and there is a move towards the use of plastics with inherently low flammability. [Pg.253]

Before a final decision is made, an economic evaluation of the various possibilities should be run. Until this is done it will be assumed the water will come from the water balhs (D-501. D-509) together with the condensed steam from the air heat exchanger and the styrene heat exchanger. This will require using aluminum or plastic lines and extra collection equipment. [Pg.218]

PCBs were once used in industrial applications, particularly as electrical insulating fluids and as heat-exchange fluids, until concern over possible adverse effects on the environment and on human health resulted in the cessation of PCBs production and an ultimate ban on manufacture in most countries. PCBs were discovered over 100 years ago and their production and commercial use began in 1929. Because of their remarkable electrical insulating properties and their flame resistance, they soon gained widespread use as insulators and coolants in transformers and other electrical equipment where these properties are essential. For several decades, PCBs were also routinely used in the manufacture of a wide variety of common products such as plastics, adhesives, paints, varnishes and carbonless copying paper [2], Despite their ban almost a quarter of a century ago, these pollutants are largely diffused in the environment. Their presence is mainly due to their... [Pg.585]

Mechanical aids stir the fluid by mechanical means or by rotating the surface. Surface scraping, widely used for batch processing of viscous liquids in the chemical process industry, is applied to the flow of such diverse fluids as high-viscosity plastics and air. Equipment with rotating heat exchanger ducts is found in commercial practice. [Pg.788]

Equipment used for thin-layer electrophoresis is practically the same as that used for separations on paper, cellulose acetate and ion exchange papers. Usually cooling is introduced into the equipment. Thus, e.g., a water-cooled flat aluminium (dural, brass) block is insulated by means of a replaceable glass plate or plastic film. The thin-layer plate is located on the insulated block and paper wicks ensure the contact with electrode vessels. A polyethylene sheet is placed between the top of the layer and the lid. This protects the surface of the layer from drops of condensed moisture that condense on the lid. A sheet of plate glass covers the whole chamber. If precoated plastic thin-layer sheets are used, the apparatus of the immersed type can be used [78]. Elution of spots, and the general practice in thin-layer electrophoresis is the same as in thin-layer chromatography. [Pg.425]
