Todd was named president of the Royal Academy in 1975. He was also a member of the National Academy of Sciences (USA), the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and several prestigious European societies. Todd served as the chairman of the British government s advisory committee on scientific policy from 1952 until 1964. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 1957 for his work on nucleotides and nucleotide coenzyme studies. He was knighted in 1954 and died in 1997. see also Nucleotide. [Pg.1256]

Professor Smeyers was not only a scientist but also an artist. He was a talented painter, involved in many exhibitions and the winner of painting competitions, and was also fond of music. Besides, he was strongly interested in world problematics and prospectives and, as such, he was a member of expert committees at UNESCO. In 1972 he became a corresponding member of the European Academy of Sciences, Arts and Humanities. [Pg.538]

Academician Jordan Malinovski (Fig. 13.7.5) was a world-famous Bulgarian scientist. He was an honorary fellow of the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain fellow of the American and Japanese Photographic Societies member of the European Academy of Sciences, Art, and Literature member of the Academy of Wallonia in Belgium and others. He was a winner of many national and international awards. [Pg.428]

This volume contains a representative selection of papers presented at the Tenth European Workshop on Quantum Systems in Chemistry and Physics (QSCP-X), held at Beit al-Hikma, seat of the Academie Tunisienne des Sciences, des Arts et des Lettres, in Carthage, Tunisia, September 1-7, 2005. About 90 scientists from 18 countries, half of them from North Africa, attended the meeting, which focussed on the evolution of current issues and problems in methods and applications. [Pg.306]
