Ethylenediamine producers

The preparation of 2-imidazolidinethione (ethylenethiourea) has similarly been reported to be prepared from ethanolic ethylenediamine and carbon disulfide [72], The reaction is exothermic, and carbon disulfide is added slowly in portions. The product melts at 197°-198°C. Substituting propylenediamine in place of ethylenediamine produces an 80% yield of colorless crystals of 2-thio-3,4,5,6-tetrahydropyrimidine, m.p. 207°-208°C, after recrystallizing from water [73]. [Pg.86]

Lithium dissolved in amines of low molecular weight constitutes a useful and convenient reagent for reducing aromatic hydrocarbons to monoolefins.6 Although mixtures of isomeric olefins are usually obtained with primary amine solvents, the use of secondary amines as cosolvents dramatically increases the selectivity of these reductions so that the more thermodynamically stable olefin usually becomes the predominant product. Thus, in the reduction of naphthalene, the amount of A9,10-octalin increases from 52% when pure ethylamine is the solvent to 80-82% when the solvent is an ethylamine-dimethylamine mixture. As another example, the reduction of f-butylbenzene with lithium in pure ethylenediamine produces a product containing 70% of 1-f-butylcyclohexene.7 When a mixture of ethylenediamine and morpholine is used as the reaction solvent, the product contains 84% of 1-f-butyleyclohexene.8... [Pg.92]

Salts of the three metals form ammines, principally tetrahedral complex ions of the form [M(NH3)4]2+, but in addition mercury salts form linear, diammine complexes, and zinc and cadmium octahedral hexa-ammines, [M(NH3)g]2+. Ethylenediamine produces 6-co-ordinate complexes, [M(en)3]2+, with all three cations. [Pg.531]

The electrolysis of sodium tetrahydroborate in ethylenediamine produces the adduct ethylamine-borane, EtNH2,BH3. This formulation, rather than as the aminoborane EtNHBHg, was suggested by the vibrational spectrum,... [Pg.142]

Bisamides. Methylenebisamides are prepared by the reaction of the primary fatty amide and formaldehyde in the presence of an acid catalyst. AijAT-Methylenebisoleamide has been made via this route without the use of refluxing solvent (55). Polymethylenebisamides can be made from fatty acid, esters, or acid haUdes with diamines while producing water, alcohol, or mineral acid by-products. Eatty acids and diamines, typically ethylenediamine, have been condensed in the presence of NaBH and NaH2P02 to yield bisamides (56). When stearic acid, ethylenediamine, and methyl acetate react for 6 h at... [Pg.184]

Note Note that the diazotization of primary aromatic amines can also be achieved by placing the chromatogram for 3 — 5 min in a twin-trough chamber containing nitrous fumes (fume cupboard ). The fumes are produced in the empty trough of the chamber by addition of 25% hydrochloric acid to a 20% sodium nitrite solution [2, 4], iV-(l-Naphthyl)ethylenediamine can be replaced in the reagent by a- or -naphthol [10, 14], but this reduces the sensitivity of detection [2]. Spray solutions Ila and lib can also be used as dipping solutions. [Pg.225]

In a 250-ml. round-bottomed flask equipped with a gas-inlet tube and reflux condenser 20 g. (0.094 mole) of N.N -diphenyl-ethylenediamine (1,2-dianilinoethane) (Note 1) and 100 ml. of purified triethyl orthoformate (Note 2) are heated by an oil bath under nitrogen (Note 3) for 5 hours. The oil bath is maintained between 190° and 200°, and water is allowed to stand in the condenser. The water in the condenser begins to boil slowly, and the alcohol which is produced is allowed to escape (Note 4). The reaction product which crystallizes during the reaction is filtered after cooling and washed with ether. There is obtained 19-20 g. (91 95%) of product, m.p. 285° (dec.) (Note 5). [Pg.14]

Organic compound (such as ethylenediamine-tetraacetic acid (EDTA) or nitrilo-triacetic acid (NTA) having the ability to take metal ions in water and produce soluble, coordinate-bond complexes. Chelants are commonly used in BW deposit control treatments and various cleaning formulations. [Pg.723]

The first step of the reaction involves nitration of the aromatic skeleton of the substance to be detected. Then the aromatic nitro derivatives so produced are reduced with sodium dithionite, in acid medium, to the corresponding amines these are then diazotized and coupled with N-(l-naphthyl)-ethylenediamine to yield an azo dye (cf. Fig. 21). [Pg.58]
