Erythrityl tetranitrate

Since these nitrate-based compounds cause blood vessels to dilate, they are called nitrovasodilators. Nitrovasodilators have clinical utility in the treatment of angina and in the treatment of malignant hypertension (high blood pressure that is severely out of control). Some of the available nitrovasodilator products include amyl nitrite (4.228), nitroglycerin (4.229), isosorbide dinitrate (4.230), erythrityl tetranitrate (4.231), pentaery-thritol tetranitrate (4.232) and sodium nitroprusside (4.233). 

Dopamine is degraded by alkaline preparation and is incompatible with sodium bicarbonate solutions, furosemide, ampicillin, amphotericin, gentamicin sulfate, cephalothin sodium, oxacillin sodium, and thiopentone sodium. Percussion or excessive heat may cause an explosion with undiluted erythrityl tetranitrate. Care must be exercised to avoid contact with skin, eyes, and mucous membranes when handling ethacrynic acid. Sodium ethacrynate solutions are incompatible and less stable at very high pH, below pH 5, and at higher temperatures. 

Erythrityl tetranitrate produces a reduction of cardiac prr load us a result iif pooling blotxl on the venous side of iht citeulalory system by its vascxlilaling action. This actio results in a reduction of blood pressure on the arterial nd during stressful situations and is an important factor in pr venting the precipitation of anginal attacks. 

ATRIAL NATRIURETIC PEPTIDE has a beneficial local hormone effect on the heart and, theoretically, agents that mimic its effects may be useful in heart failure e.g. candoxatril. Cardilate erythrityl tetranitrate. cardio-green indocyanine green. 

Erythrityl tetranitrate (5 to 10 mg sublingually) is used for prophylaxis and long-term treatment of frequent or recurrent angina pain and in reduced exercise tolerance associated with angina pectoris (see Nitroglycerin) (see Eigures 69 and 70). 

Tetragonal holohedra from acetone + alcohol, mp 140. dj° 1.773. Soluble in acetone. Practically insoluble in water (1.5 -> / ml) Sparingly sol in alcohol, ether. Does not reduce Fettling s soln (difference from erythrityl tetranitrate). Caution Explodes on percussion. More sensitive to shock than TNT. For medicinal purposes it is dil with an inert ingredient, usually lactose, to prevent accidental explosions. 

Sample preparation Powder tablets, weigh out a portion equivalent to 3 mg erythrityl tetranitrate, add to 10 mL 75 p mL nitroglycerin in MeOH, sonicate for 2 min, shake mechanically for 30 min, filter, inject an aliquot...
