Procedure The sodium hydroxide is dissolved in 200 ml water and the benzaldehyde is added. With continued stirring the hydroxylamine hydrochloride is added in portions. Some heat is developed and eventually the benzaldehyde dissolves. The solution is stirred for 15 minutes and then cooled in an ice-bath. A waxy, crystalline mass separates, and after further cooling it is collected by suction and dried in air. Yield is B6 to 149 grams. This crude material is suitable for step (B).

The physician orders oxacillin sodium 125 mg FO oral suspension. The drug is labeled as 250 mg/5 mL.The 5 mL is the amount (quantity or Q) that contains 250 mg of the drug. 

Oxacillin sodium salt (5-methyl-3-phenyl-4-isoxazolylpenicillin sodium salt) [1173-88-2] M 423.4, m 188°(dec), [a]p +29° (c 1, H2O). This antibiotic which is stable to penicillinase is purified by recrystn from isoPrOH and dried in vacuo. Its solubility in H2O at 25° is 5%. [Doyle et al. Nature 192 1183 7967]. 

Dopamine is degraded by alkaline preparation and is incompatible with sodium bicarbonate solutions, furosemide, ampicillin, amphotericin, gentamicin sulfate, cephalothin sodium, oxacillin sodium, and thiopentone sodium. Percussion or excessive heat may cause an explosion with undiluted erythrityl tetranitrate. Care must be exercised to avoid contact with skin, eyes, and mucous membranes when handling ethacrynic acid. Sodium ethacrynate solutions are incompatible and less stable at very high pH, below pH 5, and at higher temperatures.
