A linear-chained epoxy resin was formulated from phenyl glycidyl ether and nadic methyl anhydride, catalysed by benzyldimethylamine (248). An IR fibre-optic probe was used to follow the conversion of a thermosetting tetrafunctional epoxy resin in which the hardener was an aromatic diamine and a carboxylic dianhydride. A polymerisation system consisting of a cycloaliphatic diepoxide, epoxidised natural rubber (ENR), glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) and a cationic photoinitiator, triphenylsulfonium hexafluoro-antimonate, was studied (75). Multifunctional epoxy/ amine formulations (Epon 825 plus 4,4 -methylene-... [Pg.21]

Semi-synthetic polymers Chemically modifled natural polymers are classifled as semi-synthetic polymers. Some examples are epoxidised natural rubber (ENR), chlorinated natural rubber (Chlororub), nitrocellulose, carboxy methyl cellulose (CMC) and cellulose acetate. [Pg.3]

PCL (M approximately 1300-6500) with terminal hydroxyl groups was functionalized to provide telechelic PCL with terminal carboxyl groups (XPCL) 31. This polymer was blended with epoxidised natural rubber, epoxidised to either 25% or 50% (ENR25 and ENR50, respectively). The two polymers were compounded on a two-roll mill at room temperature to provide a self-curing system. The blends were heated to 180 °C under a pressure of 1000 N cm , approximately, to cure them. For comparison, samples of the original PCL 32, with hydroxyl endgroups were blended with the epoxidised rubber [171]. [Pg.213]

PVC is well known for its efficiency to form miscible systems with various low- or high-molecular-weight polymers, which act as plasticisers. Miscible blends of PVC include its blends with nitrile-butadiene rubber (NBR), chlorinated PE and epoxidised natural rubber (ENR). In PVC/NBR blends, NBR acts as a permanent plasticiser for PVC in applications such as wire and cable insulation, food containers and pond liners. Simultaneously, PVC improves the ozone and chemical resistance as well as thermal ageing characteristics of NBR [a.l04]. [Pg.69]
