Ultrasound may be used for disruption of fat globules in milk and is an alternative to homogenization for this purpose. It also has the potential to alter the functionality of milk, as demonstrated by its effects on the properties of yoghurt (Vercet et al. 2002). These authors showed that the simultaneous application of heat and ultrasound (12 s at 20 kHz) under moderate pressure (2-kg pressure) improved the textural properties of yoghurts. [Pg.28]

Fire pumps should be solely dedicated to fire protection. They may be used to feed into a backup system for emergency process cooling but not as the primary supply. If such backup is allowed is should be tightly controlled and easily accessible for prompt shutdown in case of a real emergency. [Pg.208]

Several emerging processes may be applicable for treatment of oily drilling muds prior to disposal. One process being tested in Europe involves the use of an electric distillation kiln to break down solids-laden oil-based drilling muds [13]. Another process uses critical fluid to extract oil and organics from oily sludges so that they can be landhlled [34]. Copa and Dietrich [14] treated a sample of spent drilling mud with wet air oxidation. The COD content was reduced by 45 to 64% and the dewaterability of the mud was improved. [Pg.276]

Unique Process Requirements. The fabrication of TFML interconnections involves a repetitive sequence of thin-film processes to deposit and pattern conductor and dielectric layers. Many processes used in IC fabrication, such as vacuum deposition of metals, photolithography, wet and dry etching, and newly emerging processes (such as laser etching and deposition), may be used in the fabrication of TFML interconnections. However, the geometries and substrates required for packaging impose a number of unique requirements on conventional thin-film processes. [Pg.488]

Collect intrinsic data pertaining to the emerging process liquid-liquid distribution, kinetics, hydrolytic and radiolytic stability, and the maximum metal loading in an organic phase without TPF, referred to as the limiting organic concentration (LOC). Consequently, build a database. [Pg.5]

Another technique for mitigating process upsets is to abort the process by means of an emergency process control system. This approach is most commonly employed with reactive chemical systems. Successful methods include ... [Pg.12]

Accordingly, one should assume that the crucial emergent process (i.e., biopoiesis) rather took place in surrounding waters enriched with mineral salts, possibly acidic solutions, e.g. mineral springs degrading nearby carbonates or ponds slowly drying out, than in the open ocean. The geochemical plausibility and implications will be discussed next. [Pg.160]

The enantioselective reductive ring opening reaction of bicycHc ethers is an emerging process whose full scope has not been deUneated. Further synthetic and mechanistic studies will be necessary before a detailed understanding of the reaction is available. Nevertheless, the reaction has provided a new route to three synthetically useful classes of molecules which are versatile intermediates in the preparation of biologically active compounds. [Pg.342]

Emerging Processes Electrolysis is currently the sole source of sustainable and renewable hydrogen operating at commercial scales. Other renewable processes have, however, been known for many years. These processes have only recently been reconsidered for commercial production of hydrogen and are, in most cases, at early states of development. [Pg.51]
