Electrochemical methods pulsed amperometric detection

The refractive index detection (RID), often used in high-performance liquid chromatography, is an interesting detection method in CE with a laser light source and a limit of detection (LOD) in the micromolar range. Electrochemical detection (ECD) and pulsed amperometric detection (PAD) of sugars are common and effective methods used in HPLC. Some recent communications show that the sensitivity of these detection methods in CE have an approximately 1000-fold better LOD than RID. Unfortunately, these de-... [Pg.304]

Electrochemical detection (potentiometry and ampe-rometry) has been recognized as a useful method following separation by LC. A number of methods based on electrochemical oxidation using various metallic electrodes has been reported. Foiling of gold and platinum electrodes may be overcome by pulsed amperometric detection, which combines ampero-metric detection with alternate anodic and cathodic... [Pg.456]

IC was applied to the determination of AsOg and AsO in metallurgical media [41]. Two types of procedures were proposed. One was using tripolar pulsed amperometric detection for As(III) and conductivity detection for As(V). The other procedure proposed using UV detection. UV was found to be faster and simpler, but less sensitive than electrochemical or conductivity detection. The effects of HCl and H2SO4 acids were discussed in this work. The method required a cleanup step to remove interferences or else partial precipitation of arsenic due to cations could result. Sample matrix can pose serious problems for conductivity and UV methods of detection. [Pg.226]

Although tocopherols and tocotrienols can be detected by UV absorbance at 280 nm, fluorescence detection (excitation 294 nm and emission 326 nm), as shown in Figure 11.3, has proven to be a much more sensitive method. Electrochemical detection such as pulsed amperometric and coulometric (Uspitasari-Nienaber, 2002) has also proven to be sensitive and potentially valuable for the quantitative analysis of tocopherols and Tocotrienols (Abidi, 2000), especially for tocol analysis in blood and serum samples. HPLC mass detectors such as flame-ionization detectors, evaporative light-scattering detectors, and charged aerosol detectors have proven to be valuable for the quantitative analysis of many types of lipids, but because tocols have... [Pg.374]

To overcome the problem of detection in CE, many workers have used inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) as the method of detection. " Electrochemical detection in CE includes conductivity, amperometry, and potentiometry detection. The detection limit of amperometric detectors has been reported to be up to 10 M. A special design of the conductivity cell has been described by many workers. The pulsed-amperometric and cyclic voltametry waveforms, as well as multi step waveforms, have been used as detection systems for various pollutants. Potentiometric detection in CE was first introduced in 1991 and was further developed by various workers.8-Hydroxyquino-line-5-sulfonic acid and lumogallion exhibit fluorescent properties and, hence, have been used for metal ion detection in CE by fluorescence detectors.Over-... [Pg.646]

Any of the methods of detection used in liquid chromatography can be used in IC, though some are more useful than others. If the eluent does not affect the detector the need for a suppressor disappears. Common means of detection in IC are ultraviolet (UV) absorption, including indirect absorption electrochemical, especially amperometric and pulsed amperometric and postcolumn derivatization. Detectors atomic absorption spectrometry, chemiluminescence, fluorescence, atomic spectroscopic, refractive index, electrochemical (besides conductivity) including amperometric, coulometric, potentiometric, polaro-graphic, pulsed amperometric, inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometry, ion-selective electrode, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, bulk acoustic wave sensor, and evaporative light-scattering detection. [Pg.2291]

Commercial electrochemical detectors whose cells are directly connectable to the postcolumn efflux of the HPLC apparatus are available from a number of manufacturers. This method of detection is comparable in sensitivity to detection by absorption spectroscopy when the amperometric circuit is operated as a DC pulse polarograph. [Pg.202]
