Saving Electrical Energy

Drying fime can be influenced by the operation time of the burner. For the sake of electric energy saving the number of internal fans in operation can be reduced, generally, in the final period of drying. In this period the humidifier... [Pg.343]

Electrical energy can be saved by decreasing the interpolar distance. All of the three suggested cells have a short interpolar distance (2 cm for the cell in Figure 1.4.1 1 cm or even shorter for the cells in Figures 1.4.2 and 1.4.4), which could produce an electrical energy saving of about 30-35%. [Pg.31]

Many units have waste heat recovery systems that generate low pressure steam from reaction heat. Such steam is often employed to drive adsorption refrigeration units to cool the reactor feed stream and to increase polymer conversion per pass, an energy-saving process that reduces the demand for electrical power. [Pg.373]

This technique is medically attractive as well as economical and has achieved commercial success. Initially, the devices were very heavy and required so much electrical power that they were not portable. Later work (Guzelsu et al., 1994) provided a more elfective pulse characteristic that was also energy saving, which led to battery-powered portable devices. Figure 24.2 indicates the earlier and later PEMF characteristics. [Pg.416]

T)man (2005) reported on a case study of a CHP (combined heat and power) system installed at a dairy facility in Ireland. The CHP system generates electricity and uses the generated heat to provide steam. The overall efficiency of the process is 58%. Reported energy savings were 1.7M euros/year with reduction of 27,920 tons of CO2. [Pg.78]

The necessary electrical energy for operating the desiccant system has been calculated to be about 1.5 MWh per year. Compared to a conventional system using vapor compression cooling and gas heating about 6 MWh of electrical energy and 11 MWh of thermal energy per year can be saved. [Pg.442]

In electric laundry dryers, it is important from an energy-saving point of view to ensure that as much water as possible is extracted from the laundry beforehand. With increasing market penetration of laundry dryers, the importance of the maximum spin speed in washing machines also increases. [Pg.22]

These newly developed systems came to be known as Energy Management and Control Systems (EMCS). The computer in use at this time was the minicomputer. These systems utilized energy saving features for optimizing equipment operation, offsetting electrical demand and initiated the shut-down of equipment when not in use. [Pg.233]

Power management may involve devices that regulate the on and off times of selected loads, such as fans, heaters, and motors. These devices reduce the electrical demand (kilowatts) and regulate energy consumption (kilowatt hours). In the past most of the energy savings has mainly been in heating. [Pg.236]
