Electric power generation plants

Tall stacks are no longer considered to be an acceptable alternative for controlling emissions from electric power generating plants. (See further discussion in Chapter 26, Section V.)... [Pg.495]

The once-through cooling system flow rate range of 239 steam electric power generation plants using coal is 0.189-6,280,000 m /plant (mean 1,130,000 m / plant), which is equal to 0.001-209,000 mVMW (mean 4,310,000 m /MW). [Pg.591]

The most common source of nitrogen oxides, therefore, is high-temperature combustion processes, such as those that take place in automobiles and trucks, in electrical power generating plants, and in industrial processes. Residential sources, such as gas stoves and home heaters, are also responsible for the release of significant amounts of NO into the atmosphere. At the end of the 20th century, the EPA reported that motor vehicles were responsible for 49 percent of all NO released into the atmosphere in the United States ... [Pg.25]

After coal arrives at its destination for consumption—say an electric power generating plant—considerable handling remains prior lo the coal-fired boilers. See Figs. 17 and 18. [Pg.396]

The paper deals with electrolysis side-stream desalting which offers an alternative solution to the problem of water and salt management in electric power generating plants where blowdown disposal is needed, and where the value of recovered water is considerable. An advanced electrodialysis technology is described. 4 refs, cited. [Pg.273]

The U.S. natural gas system includes 726 natural-gasprocessing plants 410 underground gas storage fields 254,000 miles of gas transmission lines and 980,000 miles of local distribution pipelines (NPC, 2001). Natural gas is used extensively in homes and buildings for heating, and it is an important feedstock for chemical plants, fertilizer production, and industrial processes. Finally, its most rapidly growing use is in the production of electrical power, where it has become the fuel of choice for the majority of new electric power generation plants. [Pg.212]

Although oil-fired electric power generating plants are becoming rare, let us assume one such plant consumes 3.5 million liters of oil per day, that the oil has an average composition of C18H34 and... [Pg.16]

Tables 5-1 and 5-2 list facilities in each state that produce, process, or import selenium and selenium compounds, respectively, for commercial use. The data do not include facilities such as electric power generating plants that release selenium unintentionally as a byproduct. The intended use and the range of maximum amounts of these substances that are stored on site are also included. The data listed in these tables are derived from the Toxics Release Inventory (TRI99 2001). Only certain types of facilities were required to report. Therefore, this is not an exhaustive list. GRP is a heat insulator. This means that when transporting hot gases, a reduction in the added outer insulation can be considered, and in certain conditions, no insulation at all may be required. One important area for this application is in flue gas desulfurization for coal fired electrical power generation plant. In this process, sulfur dioxide-containing gas is fed into an absorber tower, where it is washed with a limestone slurry. The sulfur dioxide in the gas stream forms calcium sulfite, which is subsequently oxidized to calcium sulfate (gypsum). [Pg.301]

For the first example, consider the continuous two-stage compression of nitrogen gas shown in Figure 9,19. which is based on actual plant operating conditions. The system or control volume is selected to exclude the electric power generation plant and cooling-water heat sink. Assume that the temperature, T, of the cooling water is essentially equal to the dead-state temperature. To. Calculate the lost work. [Pg.1092]

Pressure-relief valves protect life and property. They are installed on pressurized systems in almost all types of industries such as refineries, oil and gas production facilities, pipelines, electric power generating plants, paper mills, chemical plants, and other industrial facilities worldwide. Pressure-relief designs are available for both compressible and noncompressible fluid applications in a wide range of sizes, material selections, pressure classes and temperature ranges. [Pg.845]

The purpose of a focus review is to concentrate on a particular process or audit component that requires a specialized team that is experienced in the category of focus required. For example, the focus review inspection of an electrical power generating plant required a team of millwrights, pipefitters, electricians, plumbers, and other trades when a property fire protection insurance visit was made to the plant. [Pg.106]
