Mental effort

The following checklist maybe useful in organizing your thinking. You can complete it formally, in writing, or simply conceptually or mentally what s important is to think these kinds of questions through in advance of starting up a team effort.

One important implication of the relationship between classification and theory is that classification systems define and propel research. Classification is a necessary starting point for the vast majority of research that takes place in mental health. Studies would not be funded or published if clinical populations were not first defined on the basis of diagnostic criteria. We are emphasizing that an inadequate classification scheme is likely to create a faulty Starting point that results in considerable expense in terms of time, effort, and research dollars (not to mention the human costs in regard to delaying our ultimate understanding of these disorders). 

In the U.S., race has been used as a proxy for a variety of physical, mental, and social dimensions. The legacy of racism still pervades society, including disparity in access to health care and in health care outcomes (see chapter by Nsiah-Jefferson, this volume). In attempting to eliminate these health disparities there have been efforts to include racial and ethnic minorities in research studies and to generate better data on racial and ethnic variations in health status. Although most policy makers and commentators believe that racial classifications in data collection and outcomes research are needed to eliminate health disparities, others believe that such policies prolong the use of a flawed concept and reify race as a pseudoscientific measure (Lee et al., 2001).

We ve also said before that it is a matter of local policy how formal your documentation must be. When you re plugging components together to get an early product delivery, you don t care about all this. The so-called anxious disorders of Cluster C include avoidant personality disorder (APD), dependent personality disorder (DPD), and obsessive-compulsive personality disorder (OCPD).
