Direct programming

The breadth of their research similarly reflects his diverse interests and abilities. Scientifically, the research at the Institute was a continuation of the Mark directed programs in Vienna and, to a lesser extent, in Hawkesbury. Yet the Brooklyn research was improved by better instrumentation, refinement in techniques, and a unique alliance of scientists with a broad range of experiences. 

That year Richard was busily directing programs in China, Vietnam, and Africa to introduce scientists to modern genetic techniques, fierce in his determination that not only those in the developed world should retain the knowledge and assume the benefits. Yet he was deeply worried that the grant monies he was using to support himself would soon dry up because of the inertia of the status quo that determines research strategies. Then he would have to support himself in a more conventional way, as a professor, for example. 

The second method of determining the L tensor is that proposed by Hoy et al.,1 in which closed analytical formulae are obtained for the second and third derivative L tensor elements in terms of the first derivative elements, by direct differentiation of Hi with respect to Qr. The resulting formulae are given in equations (22)—(36) of ref. 12, and they will not be repeated here. These formulae, which may be directly programmed, greatly simplify the determination of the L tensor. The existence of these formulae emphasize that the L tensor may be entirely determined from a knowledge of the L matrix. 

TestExpression is evaluated and used to direct program flow to the appropriate Case. ExpressionListN can be a single value, a list of values separated by commas or a range of values. The optional Case Else statement is executed if TestExpression doesn t match any of the values in any of ExpressionListN. 

The goto statement is sometimes used to direct program control when a program exception or error occurs. Alternative constructs that can be used in structured programming include (a) the return statement, which returns control to the end of the current function (b) the break statement, which terminates the inner most loop and (c) the continue statement, which returns to the next iteration of the innermost loop.

More than one row may be removed by using more than one DELETE card. Each card deletes one row, always the last remaining row of the matrix. When the row is deleted, the data for it is actually stored by the program, and the row can be put back into the problem by direct programming. However, as far as the control card user is concerned, the row is lost forever. For a discussion of the mathematics of deletion, see Dantzig [4],... 

An operation in which the use of control cards seems clearly superior to direct programming is that of reading in data for a problem. If control cards are always kept with data decks, they may serve as identification both in the listing of the problem and of the deck of cards. Decks...

The Federal programmatic context for CB defense has changed dramatically in recent years. This is reflected in a number of national and military strategy documents that guide US CB defense efforts.
