Efficacy results tables, where you want to see which of the therapies treats the underlying disease state better. 

However, intervention trials investigating the effects of P-carotene and lycopene supplementation on CVD have not reported convincing results (Table 3.1.3). Among the seven studies reviewed herein, four primary prevention trials, namely the Multicenter Skin Cancer Prevention Study, the Beta Carotene and Retinol Efficacy Trial, the ATBC cancer prevention study, " and the Physicians Health Study have shown no association between a supplementation of P-carotene and risk of death from CVD or fatal and non-fatal MI. 

The efficacy of a large range of antidysrhythmic drugs in converting atrial fibrillation to sinus rhythm acutely and in maintaining it during long-term treatment has been the subject of a systematic review (14). Adverse effects were too sporadically reported to be suitable for proper review. The efficacy results are summarized in Table 4.

In a subsequent soil systemic greenhouse trial, we compared RH7988 with aldicarb for long-term aphicidal efficacy by at-planting soil treatment of tobacco. The results (Table X) showed RH7988 to be equivalent to aldicarb providing excellent aphid control throughout the one month test period. 

More than 40 medications have been investigated but none have shown consistent efficacy for primary cocaine or amphetamine dependence. These medications include dopaminergic agonists, antidepressants, and more recently disulfiram, selegiline, and a cocaine vaccine (see Table 5—2 for summary). Studies have been relatively brief and have focused on abstinence initiation rather than on relapse prevention, but even these modest treatment goals have not been attained. The focus in the discussion that follows is on pharmacotherapies for cocaine dependence, because very few clinical trials have been completed with amphetamine-dependent patients. Furthermore, none of the studies of amphetamine dependence have shown results different from those described for cocaine dependence (Rawson et al. 2002b Srisurapanont et al. 2001).

Published evidence highlights the efficacy of SFE. However, the method is highly matrix and analyte dependent and must be optimised for each combination of material and analyte. Interaction between analyte and matrix is often difficult to predict and optimisation of the extraction procedure is not simple. Understanding of the processes that occur during SFE has lagged behind instrumental developments. The results obtained from SFE are highly dependent on the operational parameters used during the extraction (Table 3.19). 

Incorporation of fluorine at a site adjacent to a "metabolic soft spot" has also been used as a strategy to increase duration of action. Linopir-dine (24) was among the first clinical compounds that enhanced potassium-evoked release of acetylcholine in preclinical models of AD [22]. Linopirdine showed no clinical efficacy and its human pharmacokinetic profile was suggested as the reason for this lack of clinical efficacy. Specifically noted was the molecule s poor brain exposure and short half-life due to formation of the N-oxides 25 and 26 (Table 3) [23,24]. Optimization of 24 resulted in replacement of the indolone core by the anthracenone 27, which had improved in vitro activity, but still exhibited a short duration of action. The in vivo protective activity of rifaximin was studied in mice, infected experimentally by intraperitoneal inoculation of S. aureus Colliva and compared to that of rifampicin (a systemic rifamycin) and gentamicin (a poorly absorbed aminoglycoside) [74]. After oral administration, only rifampicin was effective whereas the other two compounds were inactive at doses up to 10 mg/kg. However, when injected subcutaneously, rifaximin displayed a good therapeutic efficacy (table 2). While confirming its antibacterial activity, these results clearly indicate that rifaximin, like gentamycin, is poorly absorbed after oral administration.
