As described in Section 3 of Chapter 4, the stabilization of n-Si electrode by coating with poly(pyrrole) has attracted much attention. The stabilization of a small bandgap n-semiconductor electrode against oxidation is of great value not only to convert visible light into chemical energy, but also to construct liquid-junction solar cells operated under visible irradiation. The poly(pyrrole) film is usually electropolymerized on the semiconductor electrode dipped in the aqueous solution of pyrrole. The remarkable stabilizing effect of poly(pyrrole) film on polycrystalline n-Si is shown in Fig. 22 67). The photocurrent obtained under irradiation in the aqueous solution of... [Pg.32]

A recent investigation (79JOC4881) examining the effect of poly(ethylenimines) modified with 4-chloromethylimidazole on the hydrolysis of p-riitrophenyl caproate has shown that the rate actually decreases with increasing imidazole concentration, e.g. approximately a four-fold decrease when the imidazole concentration increased three-fold. This observation,... [Pg.305]

The compatibilizing effect of poly(ethylene-g-vinyl chloride), the characteristic constituent of these VC/PE graft copolymers, may be shown by electron photomicrographs of films consisting of a PVC-PE/50-50 mixture on the one hand, and of a VC/PE (50-50) graft copolymer containing about 50 of poly(ethylene-g-vinyl chloride), 25 of polyethylene and 25 of polyvinyl chloride on the other hand (see Figure 8). The films were obtained from a solution in o-dichlorobenzene. In the first case, the polyvinyl chloride and polyethylene phases are clearly separated in the second case, they interpenetrate closely. [Pg.154]

The inhibition effect of poly (vinyl alcohol) on the amylose hydrolysis was investigated. Figure 7 shows Lineweaver-Burk plots of the amylose hydrolysis rates catalyzed by the random copolymer in the presence of poly (vinyl alcohol). The reaction rate is found to decrease with increasing the concentration of poly (vinyl alcohol), and all of the straight lines obtained in the plots cross with each other at a point on the ordinate. This is a feature of the competitive inhibition in the enzymatic reactions. In the present reaction system, however, it is inferred to suggest that the copolymer and poly (vinyl alcohol) molecules competitively absorb the substrate molecules. The elementary reaction can be described in the most simplified form as in Equation 3 where Z, SI, and Kj[ are inhibitor, nonproductive complex, and inhibitor constant, respectively. Then the reaction rate is expressed with Equation 4. [Pg.175]
