Effect of fractionation

Study the effects of fractional by-passing and fractional dead space volume on the steady-state conversion, X3, compared to that of the ideal tank, X4. 

Modify the program to allow for zero dead space volume and study the effect of fractional by-passing only. Compare the results to that of a perfectly stirred tank. 

The effect of fraction neutralization on pH is illustrated in figure 3 for a solution of constant anionic concentration. 

Series 2 by dynamic saturation and series 3, 4, and 5 by the SO2 electrode were intended primarily to show the effect of fraction neutralization. Data collected by the SO2 electrode have been calibrated by the correlation (equation (2)) so that they contribute to a and a, the slope terms, but not to a, the intercept. Figure 5 shows the ratio of calculated and measured values of Pgo2 as a function of the fraction neutralization.

A study of the effect of fractionation on the radiation levels in the local fallout field, as revealed by the radiochemical data, was reported by Crocker (1). A preliminary presentation of the correlations is given in Ref. 3. 

York, 1992). Figure 14-29 demonstrates the effect of liquid rate and fractional hole area on CSB. As liquid load increases, CSB first increases, then peaks, and finally declines. Some interpret the peak as the transition from the froth to spray regime [Porter and Jenkins, I. Chem. E. Symp. Ser. 56, Summary Paper, London (1979)]. CSB increases slightly with fractional hole area at lower liquid rates, but there is little effect of fractional hole area on CSB at high liquid rates. CSB,slightly increases as hole diameter is reduced.

Effect of fractional hole area. Low fractional hole areas increase the tendency of trays to operate in the spray regime (92,106), In terms of Fig. 6.29, lower fractional hole areas tend to shift the spray-froth boundary to the right. No effect of fractional hole area was observed (17,85) on the transition from the froth to the emulsion regime.

Characterization. Number average molecular weights of the block copolymers in toluene were determined at 25 °C by a Mechrolab high speed membrane osmometer fitted with an 0-8 membrane. Styrene mole fractions in the block copolymers were determined by H -NMR in CC14 at 60°C. To determine the effect of fractionation procedure, sedimentation patterns of tetra-hydrofuran solutions of fractionated samples were examined using a Spinco model E ultracentrifuge at 59,780 rpm.
