Educational research learning theories

Piagetian theory has had a profound effect on the way we think about learners and learning as well as the methods by which this dynamic development process is translated to learning environments 10). It dominated science education research for many years, becoming internal to science education thus, not only students were categorized as concrete or formal thinkers, but also chemical concepts were distinguished into concrete and formal 8, 11). In the opinion of this author and others 10, 12) it still has important messages to convey to science and chemistry educators. 

The Particulate Nature of Matter is vital to understanding chemistry. Chemists explain phemonena in terms of particle behavior. Several chemical education research studies have helped expand the theory of how students learn about particle behavior. Early studies established the lack of student understanding of particle action, while later studies examined treatments or interventions to help students think in terms of particles. These later studies led to a number of implications for the chemistry classroom and our understanding of how students build mental models to visualize particle behavior in chemical and physical phemonena. 

The advancement of RREE in Malaysia really took off with the advent of PhD in engineering education programs. The increasing number of research activities as well as funding and the positive outcomes from the research conducted managed to attract engineering academics to not only participate in the research teams but also properly learn educational research methods and the related grounding theories. Nevertheless, there is still a lot to be done, especially in terms of journal publications.

Abstract This chapter examines why learning theories expressed as artificial intelligence programs have not had much direct effect on education and training. It suggests a new research direction. 

We hope the book will help in bringing educational theory into the classrooms via the chemistry teachers worldwide more thoroughly. We wish the readers enjoyment and good luck in applying the theories and examples in then-pedagogical interventions. In addition, we also hope chemistry education research helps via this way will contribute reform in chemistry teaching for more successful chemistry learning of our students in the future.
