Education of scientists

Reviews, such as those that have been published in Advances in Polymer Science, thus play a very important role in the education of scientists and therefore in the progress of science. How important this role is, of course, depends on the choice of the reviewers and the quality of their reviews. In my opinion, the editors of the volumes in this series have just cause to be proud of their record over the past 25 volumes. 

The truth is that despite the common education of scientists who are active in life sciences in academia and the Pharma industry, the values and work forms diverge very rapidly. And if academic scientists understood the industry a little bit better, things would be easier to comprehend and to accept. Increased understanding of the drug discovery process improves scientists efficiency in translating scientific results into therapies.

Although the French Revolution resulted in the death of the nation s leading chemist, the overall effect of the Revolution on French science was probably beneficial. Lavoisier had demonstrated the service that a scientist could render the state, and the new authorities encouraged the education of scientists by establishing the Ecole Polytechnique in 1794. Many of the leading French scientists of the first half of the nineteenth century were graduates of this institution. Napoleon was aware of the importance of science to the nation, and after he became Emperor in 1804 he did much to encourage science and scientists. 

In summaiy then, we have argued that there are two key issues for social entrepreneurship education of scientists and technologists. Firstly, there is a need to understand the long history of social responsibUily amongst scientists and technologists and especially to understand the lessons learnt from that history of social... 

Main goals of the conference are to survey a status of modern analytical science in Ukraine against the global one, to renew intemational collaboration of Ukrainian analytical chemists and educators, and to approach positions of scientists and analytical engineers.

SPE is the recognized medium of communication amongst scientists and engineers engaged in the development, conversion and applications of plastics. An international Society, with many of its 35,000 members residing outside the United States, The SPE mission is to provide and promote the knowledge and education of plastics and polymers worldwide.

Thermal storage applications have been proven to be efficient and financially viable, yet they have not been exploited sufficiently. For widespread applications of properly designed and high-efficiency thermal energy storage systems, one must consult the scientific and technical expertise of scientists and engineers in this field. There is an urgent need for an educational opportunity to serve this purpose. 

Research and education go hand in hand in chemistry and chemical engineering. While it is possible to teach students about the chemistry of the past by lectures alone, participation in research gives them a chance to learn what science really is, and to engage their creative and critical imaginations. In this way, the support of research directly contributes to the education of chemical scientists. It can also provide those students who want to go into other fields—law, business, government—with a real understanding of the basic and applied work in chemistry and chemical engineering. 

The former approach implies development and implementation of biomedical and unconventional methods for prevention of ailments, adaptation and rehabilitation based on recent scientific findings and combined efforts of scientists, engineers, educators and managers under a degrading environment in Ukraine. These are the major lines to be pursued ... 

Many of the editors and authors of these books and numerous research and review journal articles were from industry and represent a continued, critical commitment and investment by industry in postgraduate education. Others are from outside the USA emphasizing the necessary cross-fertilization of scientist and scientific knowledge critical in the development of a science.
